Who else has heard this buffoon today slandering the British youth? Apparently were all lightweights and not worth employing. He has done loads of work for the young but suddenly there's a turn round and he is encouraging people to employ forging workers as they work harder. Not cool.

Sure there are some lazy buggers about but hell with the parents most of these kids have got, the professionally unemployed they have hardly had the best work ethic instilled. Youth unemployment is at a real high atm, there are economic reasons for this. Most will testify that most want to work. My girlfriend fired out 100s of cvs in an attempt to even get a bar job for months, without avail whilst people who can barely speak the lingo get employment in those same jobs. That scenario combined with the bad press the young get is a real soul destroyer. Being turned down for the most basic jobs as well as being slandered by the press has is a serious effect, the weaker members of these groups soon loose heart. To have a youth ambassador, someone who's supposed to be on your side make these comments is a real kick!

It also needs to be born in mind that the current youth is a product of the previous generation. The poorly educated are this because of the education they have received and the counter scenario of job snobbery is also about the education system. From age 5 kids are brainwashed into the get good grades get a good job, so the expectation is if you get the right bits you should get what your expecting, sadly no longer the case. Those that cannot for fill the statistics are simply cast to one side.

This causes the following minorities, over qualified idoit's degreed up with no common sense and a group that gave up on themselves slightly after they were given up on. The majority of young people however are as hardworking as anyone else and frustrated about progressing on with their lives. I work with several guys of my age and we all do a minimum of 50 hours a week often more like 70.

So Mr. Oliver you can feck off, do not include me or the majority in your harm full and small minded comments. Thanks for the help MATE, dousche bag.

With you on that, it gets irritating being tarred with the brush that shines such a bad light on us. It is even more irritating when friends and family struggle to get jobs and someone in a better position says they should 'pull their finger out'.

I agree with Oliver. He is just saying what most people are thinking. Have you forgotten about the London riots and the student strikes

It's 'cause we haven't a world war for nearly 70 years. We've got three generations of cannon fodder masquerading as parents and grand parents

No I wasn't in support of it. I believe university should be the preoccupation of the educational elite, not a prerequisite to every time dick and Harry, as it currently is. Ask yourself if theyvwere career driven professional students would they have had time to protest? no they would have been at work like the rest of us. The vast majority of young people are ready and willing to work, slandering the majority because of the few is pathetic.

Correct.

Theres a massive gap between those wanting work and spending 4 days wishing it was friday and those who want work and knuckle down all week grafting.

Fair comment mate, but that's not exclusive to the young is it? Every shop you go in the sales assistant sees you as a chore. But I Spose you pay peanuts you get monkeys.

I still retain most people want to work, and earn. If you have ever spent any time involuntary unemployed you will know how shit it feels.

I have been off work due to illness for 10 years..... but decided to become a foster carer in 2007 as I felt bad taking benefits and giving nothing back.... I have still got my cluster headaches and Suna headaches (approx 30-32 a day)....

But just gone for a job in a childrens care home and was given the job..... I really thought I was unemployable due to my headaches, but waiting for DBR (police check) and I am ready to go....

Can't wait to be working again...... and then I can hopefully afford to do my Z...... And this is why my car has been off the road for 6 years....

I have been called all sorts for being ill and claiming benefits.... But got £400 a month for bills, food, clothing and rent....

I can't wait to get back to a normal life again....

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

having my own biz and having had a lots of young people come and go over the years i see the same things cheeky and bone idle time after time there a waste of space and now i wont have any youths work me ever again oliver is correct 100% gang of lazy ****ers

I'm also in agreement with Jamie - but it was maybe explained best on the news tonight where one of the interviewees described it as the European immigrants (who Jamie was actually comparing the British youth to) were more often closer the the bread line than their British counterparts (and by bread line I believe he meant the one where they can't afford rent or to eat, not where they can't afford the latest PS3 game or a pair of Nikes which seems to the official measure in this country for 'poverty'). The reasoning this person gave was that the British youth have a safety net of benefits / mum and dad / live at home with the folks / etc so are more inclined to be work shy as it's not a matter of not eating if they don't.

I don't think his comments have anything to do with education or grades. It's simply about putting in the effort and getting back the rewards.

Today's youth are more interested in Facebook and their ****ing mobile phone than anything else and that is fact. We have had many kids on work experience aged between 15-17 and they are all the same...no common sense and glued to their phone screen.

On the other hand, their eastern Europe counterparts are FAR more employable and that is a fact....even if they don't speak English you will ALWAYS get a full days graft out of them.

Well the quotes I heard he was referancing 23 year olds, I obviously know lots of percuilar people then. If in the as it seems that I am wrong , the young are thick and lazy, then of corse it's the direct fault of the education system and parents. Sadly you reep what you sow. Which by extension lays the fault and equal parts of laziness square on the laps of the parents of this "lazy generation". That is certainly a fact gentleman.

It's great that we're all human with brains capable of free-thinking and not just machines where we only know what we are taught. This way we can't just blame parents/schools for all of society's failings! (sarcasm)

I disagree with you that it's all the fault of parents/schools. They have a very important part to play but not as important as the individual IMO.
