I don't want to paint it, or polish it, just freshen it back up, what's best a stiff brush and brake cleaner?

I used Gunk and a toothbrush

I used a brass brush on my grinder for my standard non polished one. The brush has just enough abrasiveness to remove the crud without scratching the metal.

 

It would be a bit harsh on a polished one though, unless you polish again with a cutting compound.

I took mine off and took the karcher power hose to it, then dried it out again with a hair dryer.

They will clean anything for peanuts...... I can get my car washed, waxed, hoovered for £9.99..... I can't even get the products to do it that cheap.... And they are meticulous.....lol

I am going to get them to detail my engine bay once it is back on the road..... all they want is a photo for advertising.....lol

The local ones round here use dirty cloths and leave swirl marks all over the paint. So I wouldn't use them. If you've found a good one that's great.

I had a spare one and took it to a local sand/grit blasting company ...i was about £20 and came up like new..

 

mind you it took a lot of cleaning with a hoses after wards getting the left over grit out but (but well worth it).

The last time I cleaned up something similar I used carb cleaner and it came up really well.

Drove into one near us for a laugh after a days off roading in my mates Land Rover, it was COMPLETELY covered in mud!! After a bit of banter they said they'd clean the outside for £12... We just drove in there for a bit of fun, we werent expecting them to offer to clean it!! In the end we but literally had to prise them off the thing as they were doing such a good job and we felt guilty

I find Janitol to be very good. Brought mine up like new.

Currently detailing my engine bay with it, coming along nicely.

Just make sure you dilute it according to the instructions mind.

You're being ripped off there m8 lol.. Up here the immigrants do the same job excellently for a fiver! Some for £3 if you just want it washed and dried
