There were some comparisons made a few years ago between different brands of timing belts and it was shown that the genuine Nissan belt was the only accurate one with the correct markings and tooth spacing. I think most people would advise on something as important as this that cheapest isn't always the best.

I have seen many guys on other forums using gates timing belts, and they said they would defo buy gates again

i'm not saying gates are no good .. I use the Hi performance Kevlar one my self ..

but like what Quavey just said .. there are differences between them

and with a part that is so critical Dont Buy Cheap

I agree..... I bought an aftermarket one for my N/A and it failed after 2 years..... complete engine rebuild at my expense as I had lost the receipt......

Nissan ones aren't that much are they??

I use gates for all my other belts, but will stick to nissan for the cam belt..... If it fails within it's lifetime and you can prove it was fitted correctly, I believe Nissan will pick up the rebuild costs?? Jeff / Mark???

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

I put a brand new t-belt on,at the startof 2008 new idlers and water pump,i only did around 100 miles on the belt, but the car was sitting idle since mid 2008.Would the belt be perished lying that long?

Could be, i'd definitely replace it myself. All car manufacturers recommend a mileage/time to change the timing belt, whichever comes first. My Seat Leon is 30,000 miles or 4 years
