Hi guys.

Just giving my new 300zx a good detail and thought I'd check the drain holes are clear. I was able to push some cable down the rear holes and it went about 1.2 meter down then stopped.

Can someone please tell me where the drain points end and should the cable be able to go all the way out the underside of the car?

Cheers,

Chris.

The rear drains cone out of rear sill at bottom .....IMG_3820.jpg

Front ones are behind wings and water runs down in the inside of wing....

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

Hi mate take the t bar off there should be 2 holes each side of the car I normally pour a little water through each hole and see if it comes out the bottom of the car.

The fronts are behind the wings about half way up the car, these are the ones that are normally the problem it seems like the pipe inside strinks a little and pulls itself out the rubber part that comes out behind the wing.

Then the water runs into fusebox etc.

The rears run through a tube inside the rear quarters if u take the rear cards off u will see them, I've never had a problem with these and a lot of people blame the rust on these but my old car was an 1989 and the one I have now is a 1990 and the sills have no rust.

I reckon the problem is, they get blocked and flood the sills, or has above they shrink and the water flows into the car,

Has long has its flowing out they seem to work quite good....

Cheers guys. I'll have a good look at them tonight. :)

If and when you take your interior out, you will see the pipes and the route they take, as mentioned some over the years shrink or deteriorate and water can end up where you dont want it. The biggest culprit for electrical issues lay at the drivers side footwell behind the fuse board where there are relays etc and if they get wet and corrode terminals problems occur, similarly the pass side.

The main issue with the rear targa drain is corrosion to the rear sills.

Front pipes run down the A pillar down to the side of the dash and behind the fuse board, rears, if you remove the rear side panels, you will see it run straight down behind where the seat belt mechanism is or would be if you still have yours on the doors.

And to help prevent problems with the front drains, remove your side repeaters, there you will see where the drain pipe enters the cabin, disconnect it here and fit a connector and some new pipe down behind the wheel splash guard, so you have no drain inside the cabin and no drain going through the sill.

Hi folks! Newbie here from America. 1993 Z32 2+2. I need some help with our different terminologies: what is a side repeater(from Smithy above)? what is a wing(per Terry above). Thanks for any help. My driver side was poorly repaired by a Nissan dealer...i.e. duct tape! Thought I would take a shot at it myself!

A front wing is a front fender and the side repeaters are the blinkers found installed in the front fender (behind the wheel). Not installed on USDM cars (Or at least not in some states?).

Thanks for info. Will try going through the wheel well skirts to see whats in there.

Greetings! I know a few folk near you. I have some good friends in Omaha and also Crete (Nebraska). Yup, Joel got it. If you need help on any other, terminology, hit me up! If you have Facebook, look up 'Z cars of Nebraska'.

You guys are very nice and much more responsive than many groups. Thanks for that! X Files?? "Trust no one"!

Thanks I will remember your offer. Have the Z Car Club bookmarked on the computer. They have been very helpful. Have met several as they tend to stop when they see an "unknown" Z in town.

Is it safe to assume that the word "pipe" used above would translate to "hose"?

I am looking for the answer to this. I was hoping to use the windscreen scuttle drain exit hose location under the car (or wherever it is) and push a flexible wire up from below and see it come up through the windscreen scuttle. I believe mine is blocked and this has caused flooding in the passenger foot carpet area and damp behind the ECU
