Just out of curiousity, what is the average price of a Cambelt change....I've got some siffereing quotes and wondered what the benchmark is. TIA.

Featured Replies

It's usually around £275 - £350 depending on where you go. I've just had a cambelt change and B service and this cost me £489.00, although £275 of that was the service.

Pete at SE Nissan does a cambelt change for £250 all in. I ug an old receipt out from last November!

Thanks guys. I had got a quote of at least 480 quid and thought it was too expensive...can't say where it was bec. certain people here would lynch me for it...!

Mine cost £220.00 all-in from Reynolds Nissan, Southport.(2 years ago)

Ahhh that's not fair, if someone is money chasing then dish the dirt my friend! Otherwise other innocent people on this forum could fall into the same nastey trap!

Cambelt changes, hmmm, this brings back some sharp and horrible mems. When I had my Supra I was based in Sheffield, anyway, went to main Toyota dealer(also main Lexus agent for South Yorks.) and asked for a quote for my cambelt change...

Well the guy started coming out with "that can take two days that mate!"...what? Why?

"Well sometimes it can be a nightmare getting certain bolts off..."

What two f**kin' days, are you having a laugh or what??? Quoted me the earth, something like £750...yeah cheers, now do one!

So, get back to work in the afternoon and phone my local dealer back in de Wales...ayyyy! They are amazed when I tell them what MONTEY'S of SHEFFIELD are quoting and told me to bring my car in Saturday morning first thing as the job takes a couple of hours and costs £250 tops!

As usual, due to franchising of dealerships, one tells you bullshit and one is half decent and tells you the truth!

W**kers! Best thing Mercedes could have done was get rid of all the overheads which are MAIN DEALERS!

Tim

;-)

Moan over...

Come on guys I thought this is a forum for enthusiasts! The belt change is not something to be scared of if you go careful and methodically its a sintch. The time taken to get to the belt is more than changing the belt itself.I recently changed mine in 6 hours from start to finish, however it was the second one I had done and I do have a workshop maunual, the complete procedure and pics is on TTnet and that even makes it look harder than it is.Get them tools out!!

No seriously if you not up to it leave it to a garage because if you do it wrong it could be bye bye engine Jeff TT
