IMO the most important part of an alarm is the quality of the installation. I would stick to known brands but remember that the more gadgets it has, the more there is to fail and cause problems. Avoid just choosing the cheapest price, search for reputable experienced installers with approved qualifications and pay a bit more if needed.

The toad ai606 has a good reputation for reliability, the Clifford has been known to cause problems but I believe that is down to bad installs and the shear numbers of people that chose that brand. The sigma s30 comes highly recommended too.

Completely agree with the above - no alarm is any good unless the installation is done properly! I've removed a Toad out of an old car and could not believe that it was installed by and "Authorized " installer (and I know they were cos I found them), full of black tape and wires not even connected to boot & bonnet sensors.

The Toad alarm is a good, reliable, does what it's supposed to alarm. A proper installer will hide wires in looms etc but they will be more expensive.

I've got the Toad Ai606 Interactive and can't fault it at all. As for cool features - it texts me when the alarm is triggered and I can remote enable/disable the immobiliser...even while the engine is running if say someone steals it.

I got it fitted by a guy from oop North who comes down to London on occassion to do work. Great guy, great job. No botch jobs at all.

Cheers guys ill have a look at some of the Toad alarms, I agree with getting it fitted by someone who does an excellent job

I have had and fitted Toad and Clifford, Serpi star and various others......

The Clifford can be a bit problematic to say the least..... I had a toad Cat 1 that did exactly what it was supposed to do with No hiccups for the 5 years after I installed it....

Make sure the company solder everything in, heat shrink all joints, cable tie every wire every inch or so into the wiring loom, fit the main unit behind at least 2 panels ( makes it harder and time consuming to get to for a thief )....

There are certain criteria that have to be followed when fitting a Cat 1 alarm to actually make it a Cat 1 alarm install....

Anyone can fit a Cat 1, but it wouldn't be to Thatcham insurance approval standards without it being installed to their criteria....

I have seen so called installers use scotch locks and even just bare a wire, twist the alarm wire round it and tape it..... Fire risk.....

As everyone has said, look for recommended installers who have been in business for a while and come with proven track record....

You could even ring Toad and ask them for their approved installer near you?

Hope this helps.... If you want to ask anything just PM me....

I retired as an installer about 10 years ago....
