If im stock and remove the big cat's any idea on power increases and turbo seal problems?

Featured Replies

there will be loads of different answers lol to this one but my experience fropm when i did it.

You will notice a difference in spool up, i had my car on the dyno before and after and there was no power increase whatsoever, just that the car felt far more responsive, and i did make more power lower down in the rev range.

regarding turbo seals (still no one has actually been able to point these out to anyone persay? )

but i had no problems regarding that and im not sure it is a cause of problems because so long as you have a decent ammount of backpressure (which the backbox will give you) you should not have a problem.

Hmm suck and see then!!!!!!!

Powerwise my experiences were exactly the same as Warren's. Spool up differences were small but my setup wasn't quite as wild as Warren's.

On turbo rear seal, mine started going 3 months later. This was at about 70,000 miles so roughly where you'd expect. Has to be a case of decide yourself whether it's co-incidence !

My decat pipes went on a year ago, so I suppose I've done about 9000 miles since then. No noticable change in turbo problems, perhaps even a slight improvement, but I put that down to crap being collected in the cat and then being blown out all in one go when you boot it, as opposed to a steady trickle without the cats. Mileage now is about 61,000

Hmm suck and see then!!!!!!!

Get 'em out man-you won't regret it!

If you go for an induction kit it will be like the gases hitting a brick wall! and it sounds nice too!

Although this isn't going to be a problem to you, Wes,

As a general point of interest, Mike Feeney told me that if you have a '92 or later car, as of next year, MOT stations will be able to tell if the car originally had a CAT fitted ... if it's gone, then no certificate will be forthcoming!

Don't know if this is just for UK, if they can't get this information about J-Spec ones, then perhaps it's a compelling reason in favour of import.

Anyhow, when I upgraded the exhaust, I went for cat-back, since it's a UK '94.

CheerZ,

John.
