The windscreen top strip is expensive and as an alternative we use a 5 series BMW one which fits perfectly and also looks better than the original one I think and less costly.

Not the windscreen..... Just the top strip, I think Jeff was saying......lol

Unfortunately when mine was replaced the twit that did it used so much adhesive they filled most of the gap where the strip should go..... So i had to improvise....lol

A new windscreen made me happy. Saying that, my old windscreen was in mint condition.....but I wanted bluuuueeee :)

You got all new Si? Your other picture of getting it done motivated me to think about this....

Sure did. I had all the glass taken out for the paint job. I didn't get all new, that would have been really costly. The rear screen for example is over £850. The rear quarters are £175 a side. T-top glass (which also varies in tint) I think is something stupid like £500 a side. Not too sure what the door glass is, but I spent a LONG time trying to find the best glass I could find and the glass my Z was taken from 5 different cars! haha. Windscreen is of course brand new as it's now manufactured by Pilkington.

So how easy is it to get the windscreen or tailgate glass out ?

I only ask as I've a spare tailgate with better condition glass and on my breaker the windscreen is also in better condition.

Lastly whats the costs of replacing the rubbers seals that go all around ?

chears

Both screens are bonded in, so it's a case of cutting the bond out. (My old windscreen broke, but the both rear screens, bronze and blue, came out fine.)

To cut the front and rear screens out, this gadget was used, it's called a Wibotec. Ingenious little device that you stick to the inside of the windshield with a huge sucker. It is a rotating tensile spring which pulls back after you pull it. I've had windshields replaced before and all they do is cut it with a knife. But this thing is ace and never seen it before.

Threated a wire through the top of screen after peeling back the top seal, rigged it to the Wibotec and pulled it all the way to the bottom.....

...and then went round the top and down the other side.

...and finally, the whole screen can be removed. Excuse the dash, it's a combination of window spray the fitter uses and dust!

Now on to the rear screen. Wibotec at the ready!

Same method as the windscreen, but a complete pig to remove at the top where other methods had to be utilised. It took a lot of work to remove the plastic clips that hold the top trim on. All of which pretty much had to be destroyed in the process. Refitting will be easier as I had a spare tailgate with blue glass (and top trim) that the fitter took away complete to work on which meant he could save the top trim and clips as the tailgate is already out with everything being fully accessible.

Rear screen out.

Contrary to what almost EVERYONE suggested, the door glass was in fact the easiest to remove and refit. Complete piece of piss. I made sure I replaced all the nylon runners that sit inside the sliders. They aren't that expensive, but it means the doors shut with a bit more solidity.

Having the bronze tint replaced with the blue tint made a HUGE difference. It makes the car look fresher, cleaner and more modern, rather than the 'cigarette stained' feel of the bronze glass.

Also bear in mind that the t-top glass is colour co-ordinated too, so if you're replacing all the glass on the car, these really need to be done too.

In terms of the rear 1/4 windows, they are simply cut out. The trim comes out with it and is all simply bonded back in in one piece.

The trim for the rear screen is really pricey. The top trim is about £175 and the main rubber trim is about £90. I bought a new one a while ago and the fitted managed to save it. The top trim was just transferred across.
