My little breakdown

Yesterday after all that polishing as a thankyou I let my cousin drive my car and twice I thought he stalled it. Today I was driving through the middle of Newcastle and I stalled at some lights, but I hadn't stalled at all and it would not start. It turned fine and occasionally sounded like it was trying to start but just wouldn't.

I thought it was fuel related perhaps blocked filter or something having had the car stand and the way I always run it low and had just filled it higher than normal. Anyway unusually I had left the took kit at home so had to ring the AA.

We realised the fuel pump wasn't whirring and got the boot floor up and cracked out a multi meter. We found no earth and traced the wire forwards. Behind the back left interior panel where your left elbow would be if sat there we found...

We reasoned that it had jiggled loose arced and slowly knackered the connection. So we cleaned it up the fuel pump fired up and I had nearly got home when it cut out on full boost in second. I quickly shifted into fourth so I could coast as far as I could but keep the engine running to give the turbos a few seconds of oil to give them every chance, poor things.

I called a mate who escorted me to his as the car restarted and I got the boot floor up and back seats out again. I disconnected and insulated the repaired wire and earthed the fuel pump direct to a screw in the boot.

The car started drove normally and hasn't played up again, all in all a fun day out in the sun with my zed.

Phones playing up, another picture in the next post...

What I will say is that people were utter knobs when I broke down at the lights, I was in the middle but tried to go left when it died to get onto a less major road, my poor mate was trying to push but as people under took us I had to brake, including a police car. I was there 3 minutes and thank God a scooby owner stopped blocking the traffic and helped push.

Yeah I did, I don't think that it's just me being more aware of it, it is louder??? Do they provide a constant pressure or more or less in different conditions? I may have locked it into full pressure all the time?

they do pump more untill up to temp mate due to cold start rich demand...have you waited untill the motor is fully warm

Oh yes lol the car has a heat haze above it in this weather. But it seems strange that simply earthing it the way I have rather than through that fuel pump metering unit would make it buzz so loud, or is it just getting old?

the pumps vary pumping volume according to demand..this info comes from ECU and to the controll box from what i understand so you may have put it into steroid mode by giving it a direct path earth

I think I have, so that's no bad thing other than noise and the oem fuel pressure regulator will be working harder as it will be returning loads of fuel to the tank. And the pump will be working harder.

I'll put that another way then, that's a bad thing.

Ah bugger, I'll have to get back at the fpmu and get a soldering iron out see if I can get that pin connection sorted, I just hope the heat hasn't damaged the fpmu.

only a few quid from a breaker bud

I've just listed one on eBay, it was from an n/a but don't know if they are interchangeable between the n/a and TT.

May even be able to dig out the connector that you melted too at the weekend.

Mate if you could that would be great, don't see them being different I'll do some googling.

I'm sure the connector will be in the old Zed carcass mate. I'll just cut the wires with a bit of length in case you want to solder the wires together.
