Ticking noise? smoke from left side of exhaust? power steering?

figured ill ask my questions in one post instead of 3 separate posts

after swapping the clocks i fired her up to see if everything is working which they are and noticed a ticking sound from the engine, is it because of low engine oil? or something else? i know it cant be anything to do with the clock. i did check the dip stick and its on the low side but not dry. i though since its been parked up for a while it may go away with being driven but i only took it down the road and back and after getting paranoid its something worse.

and recently ive noticed only because ive been told, smoke coming out the back end when she first starts up but then goes away when driven but seems to come out from just the left side, and only at start up......?

any ideas

and lastly the steering goes hard sometimes when im driving majority of the time its fine but now and again it goes slightly hard, ps fluid is at max. is this an early sign of a bigger problem?

Ticking noise could be stkcky tappet, but I had a zee and the bottom end was gone, sounded like a light cluncking from inside the engine rather than a tap, mayne like a hammer hitting a metal block?

no noise from the inside only hear it when passing something window down or faintly with window down, its not loud or hammer like 8l just sounds like if you took a 5 p coin and started to tap the plenum i thought noise was because of low engine oil? hoping its nothing major :(

sorry but sounds exactly like when my bottom end was gone, get under the bonnet and rev the engine, but do it like your blipping the throttle and hold for a second or so, sometimes mine only did it after a certain amount of revs, maybe over 3000rpm, so get it to 3000 rpm then try and blip it and see if it does it?

sounds like a lazy lifter not pumping up...sometimes after a hardy drive you can get them to clear out and you have a better chance after an oil and filter change.Regarding smoke after a start up and clears, then chances are its a valve stem seal gone hard and leaking.both problems unrelated.

Trying some wyns sticky lifter treatment, and top up your oil. There's only 3.5 litres in the system when full, if you have it down to the bottom of the dipstick that's a litre short, just 2.5litres of oil not very good.

thanks everyone will top up the oil and do the blipping thing, thats just sudden revs right? its had an oil change not to long ago

take it on a motorway run for 10 mile after oil change and make it sweat...do the lifters the world of good.

took it out later the same night and sound has gone, been driving it today also and its been fine no noise..... confussed!! what gives? im worried and relieved at the same time. its this calm before the storm??

No noise- tappet/lifter has cleared itself.

Common issue on cars that are not used much, as prevoiusly mentioned, often quietens down

when car is back in regular use.

Exactly that a lot of these engines are a bit tapery when cold, once warm they quieten right down again.

I agree totally with bolt, I was getting worried about my engine because of all you hear on here about them.breaking. Mine taps cold and in the first 20 seconds after start if ive had a fuel stop or something till the oil gets about. I met jimmer at croft and he said my engine seemed pretty good, it's easy to worry about these cars.

My car loves to be driven it stood for two months while I was in the flatlands and ran like a bag of smokey hammers for about 10 miles then started to purr, like a lion :-)
