I know the whole static show is not for everyone, and tbh by lunch time me personally I'm done with the major shows. Walking round the civics doesn't really get my juices flowing lol, I only really turn up to chat to the club members and if applicable see what's going on, on track. So I was thinking, what sort of things are we not doing that you would like to be doing?

For example planned road rallyes, BBQ's, zed specific track days of some sort?

What would make you think YES that I want to attend! Ideas on a postcard please.

That is actually not far from my own view to be honest.....

....Don't get me wrong, I enjoy getting together with everyone at a big event like JAE once a year; but I just don't have the time to commit a whole weekend and prefer to "pop along" for a few hours. It's also nice to spend a lunch time at a local pub meet, catching up with a few familiar likeminded owners for a drink and a sandwich every now and again. But like Brian says, the pleasure I get from my ZX is from owning, driving, waxing and admiring it. And to do my bit for others in the ZX owning community, I help to run this club in my spare time.

Meets are a great thing for the ZX owning community - but not everyone has the time or inclination to be part of the social scene that comes with it. The evidence of that is apparent in the dwindling number of people attending some of the meets; and no doubt why Mr Bolt has started this thread....!! I realise this must sound daft for someone on the committee of a car owners' club; but wait, why should it? I'm not the most overtly outgoing, sociable person so the whole event organising thing just is not my bag - there are others in the club for whom it is, so that's what they have roles like NEO/REO etc.

I actually think it's great that Steve has taken the time to ask this question though; as it might help explain why the good folks are not turning out in their droves. And if they want to turn out, what would entice them to do so more frequently; it should give Voddy some ideas for future events. But at the same time, don't dismiss those members who are happy to quietly enjoy the pleasures of owning and driving their 300zx at their leisure!

It is right to ask the question.

I dont think anybody wishes to dismiss quiet 300ZX owning members.

The internet has changed the way many of us run our lives and IMO there are many happy and content owners for whom being part of a club and having a great forum(chat room really) like this is simply all they need/want.

The DIVERSITY of the members(and by default) the club is one of its great strengths.

There will always be "motorsport" owners, show n shine owners, pub meet owners. Weekend away camping owners etc etc

and lots of "Just look at the forum" owners.

There is always room for improvement and new ideas but as I have said before the club as it is is one VERY GOOD CLUB:yes:

I was gonna say I like going to the pub, meeting people and getting something to eat but I dont think i will now!!

Yes you will.... you just have!!

And its just what I was saying ....see my post above yours

I like going to the pub for lunch

I don't have any friends, So i joined the club to meet people in the pub at lunchtime

Sometimes i like to meet people somewhhere else and drive together to the pub

We used to meet monthly at a pub, i,ve not had a pub lunch for ages

If anyone was going to a pub near me i would turn up uless i had to work

Just re read my post, do i sound a bit creepy?

no not at all. Having the club as part of your social life is one of the top reasons for being in a club.

i think it sounds ok

i think a road rally sounds great, and bbq. get sick of going to meets and standing around looking at cars when we should be driving them ;) its all about the convoys for me!

There's definitely something available for everyone when it comes to this club, no difference in my eyes between someone that simply has an interest in the marque and only posts on the forum, to someone that only gets there Zed out on a sunny day for the ladies, to someone that goes to every show and keeps model cars on their mantelpiece

I personally love a good pub meet, don't mind the odd static show but my heart lies at the end of the 1/4 mile strip or buried deep within a timing map. I look forward to TOTB as others plan for JAE, or a normal person awaits Christmas :wack:

No one should feel that they are less of a deserving owner and member of a club because they choose not to attend a local or national event. People are different and take their enjoyment from different aspects of ownership.

It's ok, I think you live far enough away that it's safe to say

How about a London meet, there could be some great photo opportunities day or night plus plenty to do once there.

+1 :)

Actually, I think you would fit in with us mad lot very nicely! Maybe a bit far though, even for the most amazing bacon butty!

This would be amazing :thumbup1:

These are the guys I hang out with in LA. Arnel Solas and Dokk Tekk, the two guys that organise these are good friends of mine. The LA meets are amazing. HUGE numbers turn up. For a regional meet, you'll get 20-30 Z32s on a good day at the LAZ32 meets alone. A bad day, 10-15 SoCalZ32 are guys from San Diego, Orange County and LA county.

I know most of the cars in that video!

I think no matter what you do at all levels is great. I personally years ago was in the custom car seen and used to travel all over the country to the billing show the essex arena just about everwere. that said not everyones cars are on the road yet mines taken best part of 6 years to finish because of other commitmant and lack of funds. That said im going to be up for some fun from spring cas mine just about to be finished. its comming back from zedworld on monday but them im working for three weeks.then some stuff to do befor its to the paint shop in augast then tinka time like sterio and stuff. Once i know ive got my car back and on the road and 100% reliable then im deffo up for a lmans long weekend. different ares like east anglia could meet say petrol station on a11 then meet up with the london crew say dartford crossing and join up with hour window all the way down the country and those who make there own way down till we all meet at ferry lets say dover felistow then go accross together to lmans for a weekends off campimg ect ect. those who wish to come and have not got there cars ready then ill have a spare seat. ect and so forth.

when is it, and if its next spring summer we can start planning hols now. any intrest in that?

Well said guys - and that is, for me, what being part of the club is about!!

And back to the original subject, I like JAE because of its significance to the club as our flagship event (and AGM, as I am on committee).

Otherwise, my personal preference is one where there is something else interesting there to see/do as well.... I like the idea of the Beaulieu meet (not sure if I can make it yet though), because of where it is - same thing with the London Motor Museum meet that was organised a couple of years ago.

As I am also interested in history and heritage, I have been at a tourist attraction when there just happened to be a classic car club meet there on the day in question (like the Rolls Royce and Morgan clubs being at Waddesdon Manor on a couple of occasions; or the MG/Triumph owners club having a show at Dyrham Park). Of course I did not attend the meets, I was just visiting the attraction - but as a petrol head the car meet taking place just gave me an added interest!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

We had a meet at the Haynes Motor Museum once Richard. They actually have a track there too and access is easy via the A303. There are some decent roads there and they're not so congested with goods-vehicles.

Cool - that's the kind of thing I like....

....Didn't you SW chaps also have a Cheddar Gorge meet as well?

On the subject of the south west, I see your location is Tortoise Head once more; I thought you moved to the Taunton area...

Yeah, the Cheddar meets were always good. There were often other car clubs up there anything from the crappy Corsa meets up to the Porsche boys. Yeah, back in Portishead. However it may not be for that long.....!

I would like to do another club track day

Not been able to get to japfest for last 3 years due to work

[sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

ian youve been quiet for a while, nice to see posting up...

How many zeds do you have now???

Works been stupidly busy, been playing with the landrover when i do get a day off

Still got 2 zeds, need to get them to a meet :)

[sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Would anyone be up for a cheddar run soon?

LOL - it's like you read my thoughts Steve......

......Sounds like a plan though; albeit 150-odd miles from me:wink:

Like I said, Le mans has got me interested.

Paul

I'm driving back from Toulouse via LeMans next month. Wrong time of year for the 24hr, but I can't wait to take my Z down to the south of France again. I take it over the channel quite a bit, but usually only drive the roads of Normandy and Brittany and sometimes the west coast. But heading due south. Should be good fun.
