Im serious about getting one of these flip up number plate things but are they legal? i thought as long as your showing your plate then they should be?

Featured Replies

yeah my understanding is that they are illegal....

you might get away with it as long as it isn't obvious you have them on the car, but if you forget and flip them up and a cop sees you... well ......

I think MantaV8 and Boldy made one for Boldy's Zed out of a windscreen wiper arm

I wonder if the 190mph rating is based on the front or back

you want one that flips in a nano second when approaching speed cams...this is the type i had on a bike once and wired into horn button:shifty:

I bought Baz's electric one to fit onto my DC5 but unfortunately it sat only 3/4mm away from the radiator so didn't want to risk it and ended up buying a manual one. (electric one will probably be fitted to my dads 300zx in the future)

Not sure if i'm permitted to let people know where they can purchase them (uk supplier) as they are not a trader on the forum. If it isn't a problem then could a mod let me know and i will be happy to let members know.

Heres mine :D

yep thats the one it slide out then flips up or down, and yes if you do have the contact details for the uk supplier or contact details please forward them to me. And i would just like to say that i have a different front end and it would look better with one of these. thanks.

I would be surprised if there was an actual law against them, specifically.

Great for show use. When the plate is showing then its just a plate holder. Its if you were caught on the road with the plate hidden that there would be an issue, ofcourse.

Is it true as I heard, that the fine / points for not displaying a number plate (say like it fell off or broke in half or was covered in mud) is actually less than those for getting caught speeding?

Just found an even better one that rotates the plates to show a different plate......lol

Proper james bond..... we could all use Mark's reg number as the reverse one......lol

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!
