Seeing as my car is still unsold its given me time to think about what model zed im after. I think the only way for me to go down the N/A route would be if it was a manual with a little bit of work done to it like a little more beef than 170bhp. At least I think thats what they are standard. Anyone here who owns an N/A auto let me know how it is with regards to power and responsiveness of the gear changes both up and down.

Sorry for the anal question I just want to get the right one :-)

Mine was a N/A auto and I had loads of fun in it for 4 years. But now doing TT conversion and joining the TT brigade....lol

It wasn't flying off the line, but had loads of grunt... I used to launch in 1st and manually go through the auto box......

pulling out at junctions I used to end up sideways a lot.....lol

straight line, mine wasn't on the spot burnouts, but launched well......

Best bet is see if anyone near you can take you out in N/A auto, N/A manual, TT auto, and TT Manual....

Best way to answer your question is by going for a spin.....lol

Then you will be desperate for one.....lol

Russ

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

NA Auto from standard were 222BHP buddy. Mine is fantastic fun to drive and is certainly no slouch. I am in Prescot Merseyside, if you fancy a trip up you can have a go in mine and see what you think, make it July 20th and we are having our monthly meet at my place with a BBQ, so you could see a few more Zed's as well (I hope).....lol.

Thanks bud will see what ive got planned work wise. I though they were 170bhp. But im probably wrong. Ive been in an N/A manual and a tt manual. The tt was mind blowingly quick and I loved it. Its just the turbos going pop that scare me

Well I'm in Swansea and have a TT auto, not too far and you're welcome to have a go :)

Thanks for the offer! But I would never trust myself in someone else's car and being a passenger just isn't quite the same. What's it like driving a car that has the rear wheel steering? Is it really twitchy on the arse?

im along the road in wednesfield , drop me a line nip over and have a go in my tt auto with a na rear diff

Sorry but I'm travelling to Trowbridge Saturday night/ Sunday morning so ill be in bed all day tomorrow sorting out my body clock lol. Going to pick up some young hotshot pool champion for a charity day we are doing in our local on the Sunday. 5hour drive round trip!!! He better be bloody good lol

NA and Auto don't mix. They barely move under there own steam. Chav's in their corsa's and saxo's will sail past. TT is he only way forward, otherwise don't bother.

Cheers phil thats exactly what I was thinking. Dont want any little boy racers taking the piss and being able to outrun a 3ltr beaut! I think a tt is on the cards. Manual/auto who knows ill just have to wait and see what comes up first lol

And for a comparison, while you were this way you could try my N/A Auto ;)

I think it depends where you drive mostly. Normal town and a few A roads, an auto NA is brilliant. I found the one I drove to have plenty of power. I think where the TT is hugely different is at high speed acceleration, the TT just goes at 60+

I've had TT manual and 2 x NA Autos. I miss the insane rocket-ship of the turbos (TT Autos do that as well) but you can't drive like that all day every day. Not if you want to avoid crashing / making other people crash / driving like a tit / getting points faster than a Club Card. The NAs have 222bhp (standard) which works out about 150bhp/ton. According to this list http://www.strikeengine.com/performance-car-specs-0-60-0-100-power-weight-top-speed.html that's about the same as a Golf GTi, Merc SL350 and only a lame brain would accuse those cars of barely moving and having Corsas and Saxos sail past.

Assuming the auto box has been properly maintained and not abused, it's fine. The JDM ones have hold and power modes as well. You can switch the power mode on manually and if you are *ahem* "making good progress" it will go into power mode automatically detecting your use of the loud pedal. Great fun round Hanger Lane but not always needed.

All my Zeds have been standard and the mileage in daily driving use was 17 - 22 for the TT manual and 20 - 28 (average is in my sig) for the NA Auto - about 20-25% better like for like.

NAs are slightly less complex than TTs, not having (obviously) turbos and intercoolers and all that extra plumbing. Don't have HICAS either. So they have less to go wrong, are slightly easier to work on in the engine bay and don't get quite so hot under bonnet particularly in traffic. That benefits (touch wood) overall reliability, running costs and wiring loom.

As I said, I do miss my TT and when I don't have to commute, might well get another one. But for daily driving into town having to cope with both M40 and North Circular Road, NA Auto is very hard to beat. And if anyone drives TT or NA or Manual or Auto to such an extent you can tell the difference on normal roads with traffic, please don't do it anywhere near me.

(oops, don't know why the little icon isn't showing up so I looked it up - mpg for my S6 NA Auto is 23.8 over the past 28,500 miles)

Thanks for the advice bud. I still think the only way I'd have an N/a would be a manual version. Each to their own. So long as ts a zed eh! Get better mpg in a manual too

I prefer manuals too but since I parked a ZX-10 on my left knee, it and NCR traffic jams and a Zed clutch don't mix! So for me, auto is a practical way to go. As you say, as long as it's a Zed. Good luck with your search.

No problem mate, I've got a bug hammer that will fit in my lap :) :)

I find the hicas ok, don't really notice it too much and corners quite well, I think the twitchy happens when the hicas is fubared and then it's replaced with lockout bar

Well said that man :thumbup1:

I have an NA manual, although it's in bits waiting to be rebuilt into a new shell. I've never driven turbo or auto, so can't comment there.

My NA was quick, hit 100mph without trying, and was great fun to drive. I miss it so...

For me it came down to money, and a turbo would cost more to insure and apparently they drink petrol.

There's also the extra complication of the turbo's (and the cost of repair), I read so many posts about smoking, which ok; could happen with NA and turbo's alike, but it's more likely with a turbo.

I'm sure having two turbo's kick in and slam you into your seat feels great, but in terms of affordability and practicality (as I used my NA as my everyday car), I think the NA wins the battle, unless of course money is no object.

When I'm rich, I will buy a turbo, but until that day, I'll settle with my NA, which is currently in bits.. :(

If you do go down the NA route, I would do a manual conversion.

drove my first n/a auto today and it pulled really nice and was smooth as to drive. Ive also had a tt so I can compare and tbh the tts are great at 60+ pulls but at low revs and in traffic you would barley notice the difference. And as for saxos and corsas passing you well if there madly modified they may but do they look as good as a 300zx ... DONT THINK SO you can shout at them you may be quicker in your little square box but my car gets the chicks ha ha ha

I have had my NA auto over 3 years now, it's fantastic to drive, and no Corsa or Saxo would stand a chance against it, don't know where that information was obtained.

Just driven back home from Corwen in North Wales to my front door, in under an hour, about 65 miles along some of the best winding country roads around on the scenic route, the views are fantastic.

Car didn't skip a beat at all, handles like it's on rails too, perfect.

This is some brilliant advice and it never seizes to amaze me how helpful everyone is on here. But its soooo hard to choose now. I mean clearly people who have the TT love the TT and the same for people with the N/A so im some respects I cannot lose lol.
