Anyone in the Burnley area?

Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone in the Burnley area would be willing to come with me to look at a car...?

It's a '98 zed.

I have limited knowledge about looking at a mechanically sound car anyway, never mind what I should be looking for on a zed.

I'd appreciate any help :-)

I'll be looking to come down one Saturday (maybe Sunday) this month.

Thanks :-) :thumbup1:

It looks remarkably familiar... I'm sure that Zed was up for sale about a year ago when I was first looking?

Never went to see it like but I'd be skeptical of what he has been saying, and also the fact that its a genuine 98 model...

Anyone know if there a way to tell a 98 spec. It's too small to tell but looks like normal air con pod, don't the latr ones have a turny wheel for the heat?

Thanks mate. Thought I wasn't going any dafter than normal.

Dan, if you want to see a lovely later spec zed, have a look back and find some of roobarbs pictures. That car is beautiful

It has no hydraulic Hicas steering so that looks right but then it has a 89 spec rear spoiler and rear lights so I am confused.

If he wont bring it down, it's not very far from the meet, I am sure some of us would be more than happy to go and check it for you in Burnley.

Well he hasn't replied to my text about emailing me pictures and asking about the history etc of it...

although he did update more pictures

I'll give him a call over the weekend see if we can sort something out

If anyone goes they can check the tag on the seatbelt

That's the best way - that and cross checking the chassis numbers. I think Mike at MJP can do that for you.....

It has the wrong rear spoiler for a 1998 car - if it didn't have the 99-spec rear spoiler then it would at least have the slightly raised 1995+ spoiler and not the original 89-94 one. And IIRC a 1998 soec twin turbo should alao have geniune xenon headlights and they look like the normal headlights to me.

It's most likely an earlier car that was given a later registration by DVLA - or if unregistered, it's about to be... Still, it looks a nice Z though but check it carefully!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Ooh! Great minds etc

Sorry Mandy, just seen that you suggested this first.....lol, but quite right, great minds......lmao

Good job guys.

I just can't trust this. It's been up for sale a few times on eBay I think.

If dare bet it doesn't have much history at all

I think you're right Richard, an earlier Zed given the wrong reg by DVLA.

dont think dvla would give a wrong reg however since they are all closing down i dont see why it wouldn't happen!, anyway when importers import a car lets say it was manufactured in 2000 and its was imported in 2012, sellers will sell it as registered 2012. which is when it was imported/registered. along with no previous owner, first uk owners etc etc so if its a 92 and imported in 98 thats what hes prob claiming, cars like that dont need selling points ;) first to see will buy! wow! omg!! they sell themselves.... i do like the lambo doors however ;)

It has happened a number of times, DVLA has issued a numberplate to match the import year rather than the year it was actually first registered.

Personally I think it wants burning with fire...

Almost certainly a series 2 model so late 92 to early 94 ish mainly because of 89 spec rear spoiler although it has 3 point seat belts in the back which I THINK came in on an S2/S3. It also has alcantara trim which I think came in with Series 2 on a JDM car. Certainly not a 98 model year car, but the best things to check on other than looking for actual dates on seatbelts and carpets are the window switches and the dials should be white on a 99 spec car I believe.

People fill in forms wrong all the time either by accident or on purpose..., Jeff posted some photos of an 03 plated car some time ago. My first one was supposed to be a 92 model, not in a million years at best it might have been a '90 model but I suspect it was an '89 but I didn't even think to check these things when I bought it.

By far the best car/bargain for sale is Deans silver SWB Slicktop, but then I would say that! ;)

There was somebody on here with a T reg on an earlier car.

And I have to agree, for similar money you could have a stunning slicktop that you know has been looked after with a proven history. Seems a better option than something that may or may not be right.

But if you are still wanting to view this one, we will take a look at it for you. As mentioned earlier, there are some really nice cars for sale on here, Deans (Sir Charles) is a beautiful example. Will leave it up to you, but as stated we will be more than happy to take a look at this one for you.
