in the past few weeks I have been in two minds as to keeping or selling my TT,

But have decided that I am not willing to give up on this zed!

So...... This morning I went to go and see a couple of body shops to see about having my sills, wheel arches, boot lid (bird shit had ****ed the paint while I was away on holiday) and a few other blemishes sorted.

After a little chat with the body shop owner, managed to get a very attractive price for all the work, so it should be off to them on Monday evening.

Also decided that while its there, they can also paint and fit my impul side skirts that I've had sitting at work since I bought them ages ago for my old n/a.

Once I get it back I'm going to get started on the minor misfire issue by replacing a lot of the connectors and the ptu.

Then its onto the front brakes, which are causing a severe wheel wobble under braking.

Also got my old leather interior to go in to replace the horrible tweed and some modified speaker housings to replace the awful farting speakers that are in there at the moment.

Really looking forward now to getting it sorted at last so I can finally enjoy it like I used to enjoy the old Zed.

I'm guna ask the body shop to take photo's the whole way through the process not just for the forum but also to go with all the other history the car came with.

Now this is all getting done, hopefully I'll be able to put it through the mot properly, as I have doubts that the one I bought the car with was genuine.

If you dont mind me asking, how much are you paying for the sill/corrosion work? Hoping to get mine in at zedworld later this year for some TLC an de-rusting. Sent them some pictures, havent heard anything back yet though =/

And there was me thinking this was a follow-up to my "permanet ban policy" thread........

Richard:lol:

I wouldnt dream of doing a follow up, I don't want to be banned :)

I've been quoted £400/£500 for all the work that needs doing which after a few other quotes seemed like a bargain.

Thats a good price mate if you dont mind me asking who are you using i need my whole car painted next year when i plan to have it back on the road for next summer .you can text me if you dont wont to post it here thanks taff

I don't mind telling you mate, its a bloke called mike from mpc auto repairs.

I am going down there in about an hour to drop the car off.

Although I'm now thinking about leaving the skirts for now and getting him to remove the stone chip along the sides for a cleaner look, can always get the skirts done in the future.

I will ask for a quote on how much a complete respray would be if you want mate.

just had a call from the body shop...... the rot is alot worse than first thought, both the inner arches are completely rotten aswell!

looks like the bill is going to go up a bit :(

might go down this evening to get an idea of how bad it actually is and get some photo's while i'm at it.

There's a rust free shell in for sale section. Its a lot of work but the end result

will be way better than welding up a rotter

Just got back from the body shop with a couple of photos of how bad the rear of the sills are, he's started on the worst one first so let's let the photos do the talking.

Obviously not very good!

Before he got to what you see above, he found what's in the photo's below...

Now that is one hell of a lump of filler!

Why don't people do a job properly in the first place?

Who ever did it went to alot of effort to hide the fact it was there!

And all this is because of the bloody targa drains, thanks Mr Nissan for such a stupid design!

Just got back from visiting my much missed Zed, both the inner sills have now been replaced.

He said he will be starting on the wheel arches tomorrow.

Really can't wait to get the old girl back, its typical that the best roof off weather comes when the Zed is having reconstructive surgery :(

exactly why i'm getting it done mate! i'm just preying it will all be done and finished soon as i want my car back especially for jae :)

Had exactly the same problem with mine mate, have a look at my pics, very similar to yours ! It is worth it in the end to get them some "properly" :)

I moved my dreaded targa drain too, worth thinking about mate

We can compare sills in JAE ! :p lol

typical problem with these cars though ain't it, annoying thing is, the zed i am breaking was almost rust free.

i even cut off the sill from it to save on fabrication costs for the new zed.

the bloke who's doing my car has just relocated the targa drains to save this from ever happening again, which should future proof it for a bit longer.

I know mate, mine was just a couple of bubbles on the sill, til my thumb went through it, then u keep going further and further in til the rust stops and then u got to rebuild it back out again !! Aaagghhhhhh

It is worth it though, doesn't feel like its going to end and what the hell next ??!!?!? But you will get there :) :)

My biggest issue at the mo is the amount of petrol I'm using, out in it almost every day after work and taking it to Hereford on Saturday for the weekend !

LOVE IT !!! :)

  • Author

well the petrol issue (as is the rust) is all part and parcel of owning a zx :)

even if i could have a more economical every day car i wouldn't as the zed never fails to put a smile on my face :) (except when i goes wrong every other week lol)

Hi guys, have just failed an MOT with the same thing...excessive corrosion at the rear sills. Problem is i have a wide arch kit on the zed...has anyone had the same issues with a widearch and if so whats the solution?...ive got it booked in to get welded but dont know how theyre going to do it as kit sits over the top!!

  • Author

I'm guessing that they are going to have to cut your kit up a bit to get to rot. Best make sure once they have done it they remember to relocate your targa drains ( unless your cars a slick top that is).

Thanks for the reply mate. Yeh i was thinking they might...as long as it comes off ok i should be able to get it back on and resprayed...just dont know how bad the rot is. Zedworld mentioned it needed doing last year when i had my turbos rebuilt but said it wasnt bad enough to do immediately so hoping it hasnt deteriated too quickly. And its not a slicktop so may be worth relocating the targa drains like u said...

Finally got word from the body shop today that my Zed

should be ready to be picked up by the end of the week :)

Will be getting all the photos they took during the removal of its car cancer too, so will post them up asap.

I'm so excited! I have missed it everyday since I dropped it off!

I'm praying he's done a fantastic job!

Knowing my luck it will start raining for the next couple of weeks as soon as I get the keys back.

Cool nice one tomo.look foward to seeing pics. Its like when my 260z had a load of welding done last year. The floor was flimsey metal, done by someone previously and filler was all over the place.Brand new strong steel and brand new sills were fitted and its a rock solid car now.Why the Fxck do people do that.grrr.Anyway get it on the road mate as you have a z meet to arrange.haha..ps if a car shop takes pics you know its good work thats been done.
