Since our AGM at last year's JAE, the committee has been reviewing the club's policy on the issue of permanent bans to errant members.

Having carefully considered the policy, we are united in the opinion that the notion of a permanet ban from the club is an absolute last resort; and one course of action reserved for when nothing else is appropriate in the circumstances. Hence we have decided to retain the notion of a permanent ban where the action is in the best interests of the club and its membership; as there are already finite bans in place with fixed terms - eg. of 1 week, 1 month, 1 year etc etc.

However we have all agreed that even if a permanent ban has been issued, sometimes some people deserve a second chance. Consequently anyone issued with a permanent ban (past or present) will now be permitted to apply to the committee for their return to the forum after a period of 12 months from the issue of their ban.

It's a bit like parole - one applies to return, the committee takes a vote and lets him or her know. If the application is successful, then the former banned member is permitted back onto the forum on a probationery period of 6 months. Conversely if a person's application is denied; they remain banned - although they are still eligible to apply to have their ban overturned in another 12 months. And so on.....

The present system of appealing against a permanet ban still remains the same - once a member is permanently banned from the club, they have the usual 7 day period to appeal against the committee's decision. As said, a permanent ban is always a last resort; we do not like having to take such drastic action against our members unless we are faced with no alternative option. And whilst the permanent ban does remain in place (when necessary), we are willing to reconsider each individual situation at some point in the future!

I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:

I genuinely don't think si is lurking around here anymore. He is fairly active elsewhere and is actually a moderator on http://www.300zxclub.com, personally I know people have found him testing on the club but if you met him in reality he's quite different really. I do find it hilarious though that the first mention of banned members and back si comes up. Slightly more on topic I don't think anyone should be banned for life, its a bit strong. You only go to jail for 30 years for killing someone. Maybe it would be better to take away certain privileges, I'e the ability to buy/sell or access private areas of the forum, and for the worst people disabling their ability to post, so the forum becomes read only to them.

There's changes round here that need to be made in regard's to the policies and rules, and the way decisions are made esp in respect to traders. However that's a different subject that will doubtlessly cause controversy. However changes do need to occur to protect and improve our current club situation. I'm not really sure when will be the right time to discuss all that though and many are doing more than most realise to help out.

Just to point out my white flag is waving here.

It's a funny one cos I would rather see some people remained banned - like those who've ripped people off in the past - but only if they didn't come good in the end.

Anyway, I'm sur our brilliant team of mods will remain open minded if/when reviewing anyone's status - otherwise the announcement would be pointless lol

From a relative newbie point of view I agree with the change of policy. I dont know any of the people mentioned. People change their cars so the member base changes constantly. we all get older and wiser, well most of us do so a ban for life is pretty daft really.. well without the possibility of parole.. lol..

I do frequent the other forum as well and have never seen anything bad from Funkysi... I am assuming same person here?

Although from reading back through this thread I am also assuming some members were more or less bullied really and I dont condone bullying in any format...

Unless like Lee said, if somebody rips members off the chances of the leopard changing its spots is quite slim..

lot of members now have become full paid members and join in the forum a lot more since simon left, he was full of knowledge and quite funny and liked by many (even myself at one time) but if you did something he didnt like he constantly bullied you about it, if you couldnt spell properly he would bully you about it and it made a lot of people very uneasy using the forums for fear of being bullied by simon

shame really

Who on the fruom cnat splel lkie???

I liekd hereing waht he had to say.

Aynawy, I hpoe tihs will wrok wlel. Paece be to all.

And if you can't spell/read like me, then I run the risk of being bullied, but you'll never know what I was on about anyway lol.

Open to all opinions and thoughts  if its good for the club then the Committee will vote on it. Plus we have an AGM with members at JAE on club poilcy and any thing else that is on your mind. So dont be afraid to speak up if you have a good idea.

Our last AGM.

Well put Gary - and we also have a suggestions section so if anyone has an idea on how the club can be improved for the benefit of the membership, please feel free to let us know! We're always open to new suggestions.....

Maybe Si is, maybe he isn't lurking around - but he smart money says that he probably still is on the odd occasion; LOL...:shifty:

As for your comment about the need for changes to policies and rules, yes; it might be a topic for another conversation - which is why I referred to the club suggestions section. And if you don't wish to go public, please feel free to PM me or another committee member with your ideas!! We all have our opinions, some good and some not so good - and some are just plain stupid; but nonetheless we are all entitled to them!!

Would we know who is re-applying:ninja:

Probably not Dave - in fact not even I know of anyone reapplying at present!! But seriously though, any previously banned member is eligible to ask for their ban to be reconsidered; and until it happens I really cannot say anything more. I guess the first everyone will know is when someone announces "I'm back!" I guess we have to see how things pan out mate.....

Well I'll resubscribe if I can my PMs back...... please ?

Hi Tony, that is another subject; as you are not a banned member.......

abuse of the pm system is a different matter, im sure it will be discussed now that you have asked

........As my esteemed colleague has pointed out!

We could always commit Hari-kari and everyone ban one another.....lol.....

Bird you go first and we will follow.........rofl

But seriously, I like the way this is being discussed and I like the way the ban's are reviewed.....

Russ

P.S. I don't intend getting banned.....lol

Watching my Z disintegrate on my driveway!!!

Its not just what you said on here, ive also been shown screen grabs where you have personaly insulted me on other forums, I stuck up for you in the mod sextion many times even though we didnt get on at times I did think that your input regarding the zed was very helpfull

You insisted on causing offence to members on here till there was no option but to ban you, it wasnt done lighlty and there was more than enough warnings given and a lot more second chances than most get

Wont get into anymore arguments about it, its all im going to say

Allan

Hi Si. I like that you've put your comments on here. It's great to see someone being a man about it and apologising.

I guess there's a procedure you'll need to follow to see the powers that be will allow you to come back. Personally I hope they do but I guess it's up to you to convince them its the right thing to do by the club. And you do add a lot of knowledge and expertise. Your car would also attract people to insider getting one.

Good luck

So accepting someone back whi victimised certain people and drove them from the forum will be good for the club just becuase he has a nice car

Maybe if you had been on the recieving end of him you would feel differently

I cant imagine anyone taking si to seriously to the point that they'll leave. Everyone knows his views on stuff and what he's like. I have always found him very helpful and fun

Yes they did, remeber the guy with the green interior, he left because of him, there have been others which I wont mention as they are now regukar posters and have since subbed

Anyhoos, its not my desicion but the comittees and im sure hey wikk let him know in time

I doubt if I'd take it too seriously - you know me. But he has given me jip but I found it funny and that's how I believed it to be intended.

And no not just because he has a nice car. i genuinely think hes a good bloke and added benefits with his knowledge etc. I just hope we can all move on and maybe consider accepting his apology. Sometimes that's the most someone could do for there previous flaws.

Just be worth putting it to the committee and maybe allow someone back temporarily, maybe like a probationary period (of say 2 weeks or something) to see what happens. Would show willing on Botha parts and would show whether someone has changed etc.

Just worth further consideration
