New Zed and my first "WTF?!" thread already.

The speedo in my new toy doesn't work. It either sits on 0 and doesn't move, or it starts at 180 and doesn't start working (backwards) until you hit 70mph!

The trip counter and odometer both work without any issues. The car's a 1991 TT auto import, just in case that makes any difference.

Speed sensor? Dodgy wiring? Knackered speedo unit?

Help!!!

I'll have to pull the clocks out and have a snoop around then.

The little speedo converters fail for a hobby.

Is what I've described a common or well-known symptom of this then...?

They can do all sorts of weird and wonderfull things normally intermittent speedos and powered steering. If you could get your hnds on some uk clocks you could kill to birds, ditches the damn converter and ensures you have a working set. whilst also making it more legiable.

hmmm now who has some lovely UK clocks in the for sale section? I'm sure I saw some :)

dont know if its an issue with just japs cas mines a uk car and does the exact same thing, sometimes it works then next time itll go up and down more often than a pair of bar maids knickers, and thats just on tick over.

Who's absolutely skint after buying a Zed this weekend..... :(

the next thing is to check out the speedo sensor on the box...

part of it tends to pop out... there are write ups on what to look for and how to fix.

I've had the dash apart just now but couldn't see any wires adrift or anything really obvious. I couldn't actually find the MPH converter either - shouldn't that be tucked behind the clocks...?

Then, to add insult to injury, the oil pressure gauge has stopped working. Everything's connected and nothing's been dislodged (to my knowledge) but it ain't budging from 0!

:(

great owning a zed isnt it.. lol...

as mentioned check out the speed sensor on the box first and the convertor..

I chose the get the uk clocks and foudn all the connectors differ, wo word of warning.

did the oil pressure work all the way back? they usually start fine and then slowly stop working, common problem with the sensor. either that or all your oils gone..

Bloke said there's an issue with the sensor but it seemed pretty constant. Until after I dismantled the dash!

OK well I've owned my UK Z for 13 years now and this first happened to me after about 3 years in. Resoldered all the joints on the back of the speedo and it fixed it! Well it lasted all this time until last month and the same symptoms again. Time to get out that soldering iron! Think it's caused by heat build up in the cabin over time which causes the solder to fail and crack. A good resolder of all the joints will sort you out!

I'll give that a whirl at the weekend then. Hopefully that'll sort it!

Cheers :)

Just to blur the issue somewhat... my oil pressure gauge has started working again now......
