I have this really annoying squeek in my car, I know this is a long shot asking here, but, I have had it about 2 years now and was convinced it was behind my dials somewhere, I have stripped it all and put back together and its still squeeking. Best heard coasting in neutral as the car goes over bumps. I am thinking now it may be the A pillar!? Its really bugging me now especially as I was convinced it was fixable by stripping the cluster area, and reinstalling everything tight together.

 

It sounds like a bird is in my car, anyone else had this before?

When your driving along and it's making the noise, try pulling your bonnet catch and see if it stops...

Will be ok at low speeds as there is a second catch on the bonnet.

As long as 2nd catch works Gary.......lol.... I had a car that both catches gave way and bonnet folded over windscreen and roof at 30mph..... scared the bejesus out of me.....Nasty F**d Orion......lol

Haha don't do it down the motorway! Just the low speed cruising when you here the noise. It's quite common that the bonnet catch (the primary catch) starts to make this noise over time and the sound can be difficult to trace. There is a fix but I just spray mine with a dry film lubricant once a year or so.

I used some heavy insulation tape on the bonnet catch ( U shape on the bonnet) and the squeaking stopped :thumbup: Not a permanent fix but replace every now and then to fix.

So, I have just popped the bonnet and the squeak went! Omg, why oh why didn't I ask the question before now. A picture to show how I rectify the squeak would be great. Thanks for your help guys well chuffed now. I am mystified as to how someone found out the noise was the catch in the first place...

Easy, you just push at the front of the bonnet rapidly and you can hear it squeak, metal to metal and just wrap some insulation tape around the bar on the bonnet catch as i said above lol, only need a couple of turns, not too much.

Will the tape work just as well on a non chromed catch Graham :biggrin:.

 

I did a similar thing on my lads Frontera, just a case of making it fatter :yes:.
