So I've ended up buying 2.

One is genuine from a forum member and the other is from a company called import car parts and is advertised as OE Quality.

So I'm curious what the differences are if anyone knows and what's the best of the 2. Here are some pictures, the Nissan one is on the right:

Test them in water before putting in car ..

use a temp gauge as well u may find that the Nissan one will open up at the right temp of 75 i think

and open more wider for better flow

take it off .. it should be the same flange .. Stats are use in loads of other cars .. its just another fitment type

I would stick with OEM, you dont want to be replacing it at a later date if it doesnt perform correctly.

Everyone always say oem is best... But I always wonder, apart from availability, why do people make aftermarket stuff? Surely you get upgraded ones etc

because they sell and the makers and sellers have mouths to feed:wink:

I had two ADL Blueprint thermostats fail to open (MR2 Turbo & Toyota Soarer TT) at the specified temps. Upon inspection, it was due to the rubber sealing gasket. The Soarer thermo failed to open at all, which lead to overheating and loss of all the coolant. The MR2 thermo opened religiously at 95°C instead of 82°, similar behaviour reported by Rogue Motorsport. Impossible to tell on the stock gauge.

OEM every time IMO.

OEM for this kind of stuff, they make it because people will buy it. There are nismo ones that open slightly earlier but unless you have a track car a big rad its of no real benefit so im told, so on a fully stock system, a bigger rad would be a better thing to spend your hard earned on rather than a fancy thermostat(a lot of the one son ebay are apparently fake! real ones are damn expensive compared to stock) also its a faff to change a thermostat on a vg(easy but still a faff) you don't really want to do it twice in the same year just for the sake of a few quid.

I've never seen a stock Nissan thermostat fail on any Nissan engine, unless the engine had been mistreated by running on poor coolant mixture.

Therefore, you can be sure that the new Nissan part will not fail unlike an aftermarket part which has not been fitted to millions of cars without failing.
