My Z puffs out some grey-bluish smoke on start up as though it might be oil pooling somewhere? After a run it clears and it was left ticking over the other day whilst being MOTd and didn't smoke at all.

What can cause them to fail? The engine was rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago

I thought they just wore out with mileage. Did they definitely get changed?

you sure they was Replaced ?

 

None Genuine ones tend to go hard fast ... other than that if there new/OEM it can not be them as they wouldnt go wrong after 10k

The car has been off the road for a while so wonder if they have deteriorated through lack of use?

Na ... they go hard due to Heat and time ...

iff it has the original valve guides and iff these are worn really excessive then these will take out new stem seals in a couple of thousand miles
