To those who have removed their engine / gearbox - is it easier to remove them separately, or together?

 

I'll be transplanting them into a new shell, so it seems to make sense to remove and transplant them together, as a single 'unit'.

 

Just thought I'd ask opinions of those who have done it, if it's a total nightmare doing it with them joint together, then I'll just unbolt the gearbox.

i prefer as a whole unit, but wholly depends on the car/engine.

 

Most i like to drop it all down onto the floor and lift the chassis up and drag the engine out using a trolley

Last time I did it I dropped the subframe with the engine and box onto a trolley too :)

So neither of you used an engine hoist?

I used an engine hoist and removed and replaced both engine and box together, you need to undo the 4 subframe bolts a couple of inches to allow ease of access and remove steering collar, so much easier than messing about on our back struggling with the box.

I removed the rear subframe today, so feeling a lot more confident about doing the engine! :)
