recently noticed a scent of shells finest when driving th ecar , looked for any obvious leaks and none are to be seen anywhere , are there any common fault areas i should focus my attentions on ??

Yeh, literally follow the pipes from the fuel filter (near the battery) as they go over the plenum into the metail fuel rail, fuel dampner, fuel regulator and back near the fuel filter again. Check all the clamps to see if they are loose and look for splits in the pipes.

 

There is also a small piece of fuel hose under the throttle valve assembly at the front of the plenum, which is hard to see and reach, but has two clamps on it also.

another not so common one is the fuel tank filler neck... worth a check.

 

of course there is always a leaking injector and also worth checking the ecu temp sender as that can cause the car to run rich and smell of fuel.

thanks all , I had a leaky injector , easy fix after some dremmel action
