Hi guys, i'm going to try and install a Autobox this weekend , so i'd like to take a quick straw poll on which method everyone has used. Do you put the TQ on the box or install it first on the engine. I do remember when we took the box off, the TQ was left on the engine which i took off afterwards. Dont know if that makes a difference, JeffTT did advise putting it on the box for alignment reasons, which i can understand, but then what about securing the TQ, it was hard enough without the bell housing in place.

Hope you can help

Hi mate put it in gearbox 1st, then just bolt torque to the plate through the starter hole

One bolt at a time, use the front pulley to rotate engine to next bolt lines up with starter hole..

If u would have left torque in gearbox u wouldn't have lots of oil dripping out that I bet u had lol...

Good luck mate...

Znut..I know that, but where does the TQ go..

In the bloody box lol....

You need to align it on the box then bolt to the flex plate with the box in situ. Never done it on a zed, but done a BMW one and it was a right game even when the engine and box sitting on the floor. Don't envy the task on a 300!

Oh yeah, where does znut say that?

He didn't I did lol...

Dont panic on a zed its easy, just turn engine over using a socket on front pulley.

Line a bolt up with the hole for starter motor, then do the next working your way to there all tight.

Easy peasy...

LOL...put the T/C on the box 1st then offer the box up to the motor and bolt the T/C to the flexi plate as described by terry.

Terry, Clarkey, Znut, Thanks for the advice, i think thats gbox 3, engine 0.

I didn't get a chance this weekend, but am starting tonight and finis off tomorrow, just one thing, i've had conflicting advice on whether to add oil into the TQ before offering up to the box? Thoughts?....

i know its a bit late but yes fill the T/C up to the shaft level...to put it in simple terms the T/C is a centerfugal pump and will aid intial pumping if its got ATF in it on start up..
