Hey guys,

I am planning to change my tt back end to a na one. Was wondering if its worth keeping the tt parts?

How much would tt subframe with diff and all the other parts sell for? Everything on the tt is really good except the hicas part has a slight play.

Or is it better just to scrap it?

Also any key tasks that might be worth doing with the swap? Bushes etc? Also wats better bushes or locking collars??

I got £75 quid for my old TT sub frame, including hubs, diff.. etc. They don't go for much I'm afraid, it's the NA one that's desirable.

If your putting an NA sub then I'd take the opportunity to refurb it first with new bushes all round. The locking collars are good and do the job but I'd prefer to replace the bushes if the frame is off the car.

had a look they are roughly the same price!. but still trying to figure whats the best choice for bushes? solid gives best performance right? what would be the benefit of energy bushes over metal ones?

Is there a point in raising the subframe? some soild ones raise it by 15mm

You will also probably want to replace your brake lines too, only really accessible with the subframe removed, very common for them to corrode and become an issue at MOT time.

i would be interested to compare 1/4 mile times and speeds. i can see the NA diff just making you shift to fourth as opposed to staying in 3rd, and that shift time canceling out any benefit. on the 0-60, theoretically the na diff would be faster, but is it really? i lose traction heavily in 1st and at the last half of 2nd when laying into it. with an na diff, i can see you losing traction even more. any input?

There is a lot more variables than just comparing a diff and times ie tyres, driver ability and so on. You can look at some youtube videos of track times in high powered cars but the driver hasnt got a clue where the racing line is. Same goes for 1/4 mile plus we dont have a big enough zed scene doing quarter miles to make a comparison between diffs and power etc. I guess alot just never raced in their early days whether it be street racing, go kart racing or any other racing.

So on day to day tasks overtaking and occasional boosting its going to make a major difference?. What i am trying to work out is if after the change you drive the car for the first time is it going to put a smile on your face?

oh man do it all ready lol

haha! Alright ill take your word as encouragement here, DONE!. Work starts early morning tomo. i have just started to wash the frame and then paint it after it drys :). Need to wait for my locking collars too now lol

There is a marked difference In acceleration I wouldn't do it if there wasn't as it takes you into the realms of ideally needing to custom make a prop. Of course a unconfirmed amount of bhp also puts a smile on your face :)

Funny enough i got the entire thing with the prof etc ready to fit, its been fitted to a tt for about 500 miles after being taken of a na with 69k kilometers.

make sure u have the complete drive shaft .. or the Rear half and the Front Drive Yoke joint at least

It comes with the entire sub frame, a rebuild diff and prof shaft etc. If that's what you mean?

It was fitted onto a tt for a few miles and then just been taken off, so should just fit directly into mine.

whats a Prof Shaft lol would be that Prop shaft ? if so yes

Yes that's what i meant, at work and doing too many things at once lol

I have used a NA subframe on a TT gearbox. I took a NA rear half of the prop and TT front half and had a custom prop made as i was advised that a NA front half does not ideally fit a TT gearbox and hence the difference in size of the yokes and diameter required a custom prop to be fabricated.

there is no point in getting halves of prop shafts as the TT front half does not fit a NA rear half they are different size hence i said custom made prop which sounds like what you have. Also of note there is a difference in front parts from TT to NA as well therefore a NA front half in a TT gearbox is not a good option either.

A good opportunity to get a custom one piece made up.

yeah a one piece Prop is good .. its not that custom .. just need one for a NA/Manual/2+2 and there available on the shelf anyways

That's what I was thinking. Jeff has them doesn't he ?

yes and no ..

your correct in saying the TT Prop dosnt fit the NA diff ..

but u can use the Front half of the TT Prop along with the Front Yoke from a Auto NA Prop that comes off where the center bearing is ..

this will fit on to the TT front section

but all saying u better off using a Complete NA Prop that suits your gear box or buying one piece on the shelf

think so if not its only about a week turn around

using some parts of the Original bits
