Speed humps and spring damage

Have a few associates who run general car garages and when I was at one the other day was surprised to see a 2 year old Fiesta having a new front road spring fitted, chatting with the foreman there he said they are getting them on a regular basis now, old and new, from Ford to Mercedes and speed safety reduction measures (speed bumps) are the prime suspect! now given a fair few of these cars are been driven with broken springs and often do get noticed until MOT time is the safety measure savings in potential accidents not been watered down by the increase risk of cars been driven unknowingly with the aforementioned damage...puts me in mind of a zed last month with a broken spring, not a standard one either but an Eibach unit, this is the third or forth one we have had in the past 6 months or so.

apparently they are the most commonly complained about safety measure I don't know why the government insist on the damn things, they create noise from the cars going over even more with buses and lorries, they only slow you over the actual bump, you can boot it between each one if you so wish...and they cause loads of damage to peoples cars, and the road either side of them. my boss goes over 21 speed bumps on his 5 mile jounery to work, that's 42 bumps a day!!

When I took my old saph to get a full spax kit fitted, the garage doing the work told ,me it was lucky I was replacing the whole lot as I had 3 snapped springs!

I also put it down to the fact that the road I live down has massive speed bumps!

My other half has since had 2 snapped springs on her focus, and I smashed the shlt out of my old n/a's original front bumper due to the speed bumps.

More than likely another culprit would be pot holes. The roads around here are shocking!

Makes you wonder where your road tax money is going!

On everything else except the roads!!..even at slowest possible crawling speed over some speed humps my exhaust scrapes

It is shocking - just like the state of the roads.....

.....And IMO speed humps should be scrapped as it is obvious to everyone that they can damage cars; they cause more noise and pollution as cars slow before and then speed up afterwards; and add to congestion. I am all for safety measures around town to prevent speeding in urban areas, but if the speed limit is 30 (or sometimes 20) then on a normal road, drivers should be allowed to maintain that speed and not have to slow to almost stationary every few metres.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
