Hi everyone, long time no "see" ( been working on my bike)

Drove to Antwerp last weekend, only about 160 km from here. Didn´t thrash the car or anything as it´s a 120km limit there.

when I started the car the next morning the cold idle was about 2000 rmp, dropping to around 1500 rpm when warm.

I´ve:

1: disconnected the ECU for a while to no avail,

2: done an ECU diagnostic with a 55 result ( No errors)

3: Checked MAF and air filters

4: checked the ECU water temp sensor

5: disconnected the AAV and turned the base idle down, which brought the revs down to 1600rpm when cold and 1050 when warm.

Throttle bodies were cleaned about 8 months ago, injectors are sound and the connectors new.

The idle isn´t erratic or anything, just high, feels like the choke is permanently on.

as always, any ideas greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure exactly on the cause, mines done the opposite, dropped down way low, need to sort that soon. Anyways its worth doing a boost vac leak check, for no other reason than these cars are super prone to it. Next step is to have a good look at the idle control valve located on the rear of the plenum, it may be that the connection has become better, it may be the connection has sited itself better, the top connection is the control, once the engine is up to full running temps, unhook it, it should bog down to around 650 rpm. if it does you need to start looking else where, maybe your tps is wrong... maybe the idle control valve is choked up with soot and crap... If it doesn't then the idle screw located on the end of the valve could need adjustment.

Final question... your aircons off isn't it? this raises the base idle.

Hey z32bolt

cheers for the reply

would a vacuum leak cause the car to idle higher ?

yes, my aircon was switched off.

I think a vac leak would likely cause lean running and therefore a lower idle, im no expert simply guessing here. However any entry or ecit of air will cause issues withe the mix and would be wise to check, before going forward else it may be conterproductive.
