Its come to my attention over time thats parts for our cars are hard source and expensive. Availability of quality kit is poor from within the uk and oem parts are dropping off the availability list like flys. Being an entusiast club part of our responsibility is to ensure the marque is represented and preserved. A serious prerequiset to this is availability of parts. Most other cars have many pattern parts available, and aftermarket stuff, we simply dont. I do not wish to pick on anyone but compare our z part retailers to those in the us or oz, zcentre is tiny, its not even affilated with the owners club! Not to mrntion the price. Getting onto the twinz range, that cannot be sorted.

It's a sad state that the 3rd? Biggest ownership worldwide cannot produce a sustainable and progress range of parts, that we have to make international orders to a country on the otherside of the world to get things of decent quality, and price. I applaud companies like sfs for making good parts for us, but I think its high time we started brain storming a better way that the current reliance on the us.

So how do we move forward? How do we push the z32 out of this stagnent position of poor parts, high prices and poor availability. Theres enough.of us at the end of the day. How do we move the club away from the screen and into an owners club, are we the offical uk zxclub? Is there even one? I know this sounds like a rant but I want to still own my z in 20 years time

Its high time the z comunity raised its profile.

Having been a joint REO I know how frustrating it can be, (when your wife organises food etc only to be dissapointed when hardly anyone turns up). I understand this was a thread in relation to parts etc but reading some of the comments also doesnt inspire confidence. Quote There are far to many dogs out there now to try and raise the prestiege of the car. Every car will do this and the supra is now starting t do this, .Not everyone has the ability or the money to be the "Best in Show, but what they probably have in spades is commitment, and until the owners/members utilise that commitment its going to be a long haul. I'm not slating anyone in particular but picking up on the comments so far.

This is the hardest bit dragging people off the damn internet and outside to meets and shows, look back and see my post earlier about reo organised meets, that really needs looking at and infact this show attendance is really separate topic in itself. I'm quickly starting to see that this is going to be a long haul aim, and that proactivity and persistence is going to have to remain high for those that do want progression. I'm also starting to think that, contrary to what I thought before, there isn't going to be a mass of people who want to help. When you can see how many people have viewed this thread in comparison to how many have made any contribution its shocking, I can only assume that those who haven't commented either cant be bothered or are perfectly happy with the current z32 scene, a real shame. Even if you are happy with it, everything can be better. Although many points have been raised by those who have contributed I wonder how many if any of these things will change. :(

A lot of members are happy just being on the forum as there cars are of the road or in a rebuild infact you would be surprised how many zeds are not roadworthy but the owners still need to log on for info and the banter. Then you get members who never post at all it takes all sorts and they are welcome here (as long as rules are not broken) But it would be nice to see more of the roadworthy zeds at shows.

They can be as pretty or rough as they come, if they don't turn upto shows they don't exist, in the eyes of the public. I really feel for you mate, over the reo situation and that's the memberships fault as a whole. Being defeatist is why we are in this mess too start with. Choosing to comment and share your opinion on this thread shows you care and shows you want things to be different.

Knowing how much time effort and expense is put in by yourself to attend English based events, it must seem crazy that some cannot even be bothered to go to a local area meet. How do we drag these road worthy zeds off the drive and to the meets and shows?

About £500 gets me to JAE and its the best £500 I will ever spend  worth every penny as I get to see members who are just names on a screen (some of them might not want to see me lol) and zeds of all kinds but then I am a 300zx petrol head and to far gone to be helped:biggrin:

There is that, and that to me is the worrying thing: What if people just don't want to get involved. Thing is, that would have to be fair enough, there is no right or wrong, really. The people I've met really do love their Zeds, though.

I think this is a very important thread. The Zed was one of the giants, one of the best cars made in the 90s. It needs resurrecting as such, which is only really obvious when you look further afield at other similar cars and how they've progressed, both as a tuning platform and as a respected marque.

The posts made by Gio earlier on actually highlight how bad the situation is: A couple of mag shoots from 5-10 years ago is all there is to showcase the UK Zed scene, and even they weren't overly flattering. People say that the Zed scene is dead for a reason. Because at the moment it is. It may sound a bit pretentious, but it IS up to us as a community to change things.

I'm not being melodramatic here. Tuning places and garages in general will NOT touch the Zed, and if they do, they screw it up. This really does count for a lot, because those tuning place & garages tell everyone the Zed is SHIT. I'm speaking from experience here, I talk to these people, I'm just not dishing out names. We have to show the potential Supra/RX7/Evo owner (i.e. the ones that dictate the market) that as a community we can cater for everything, and that's going to start by being more out there. The two Time Attack Zeds are a great place to start. Zed in BDC as well that should be getting backed.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not defeatist, and now the time and weather hopefully starts to improve I will start the North Wales meets again, even though our REO has dissapeared, but I still think the key word is commimtent, and I appreciate your thinking on the thread too. Everyones opinions and thoughts should be examined, then examined again until you run out of excuses as too why not?

I've turned up as have some others to our local meets in any car just to be there, but I suppose if its a toss up between meeting up with me and a few other hairy blokes and staying in front of the telly ,, well, you choose lol

I've been to the 2 that I know off and when the zed is done I will get to the most I can but a 2hr trip ones are a bit to far for me to say hello lol:biggrin:

I try keep up to date with this thread but not sure if I have anything helpfully to input that's why I haven't commented. This forum is partly the reason I bought another zed and the help iv got from other members when I crashed mine has been second to none not sure I'd have got that elsewhere up in Scotland our numbers are going down rapidly berrica has sold his Sandyz has then sold his again mikey I'm not sure what happened between him and here so our already low number is minus 3 to start this year however when I get mine back il still be attending whatever I can

In an attempt to figure out the size of the UK 300ZX market I got this data

This shows 300ZX registered in the UK since 1994

However this would only include cars that are registered on the V5 as one of the following

Nissan 300ZX 2+2

Nissan 300ZX 2+2 Auto

Nissan 300ZX 2+2 Turbo Auto

Nissan 300ZX 2+2 Turbo

Nissan 300ZX Turbo Auto

Nissan 300ZX Turbo

Which is probably most of the UK market cars

I've had two jap imports both on the V5 with no model name so it would seem likely that a lot of Jap imports are not included in the figures

There are were 587 licensed and 575 SORN 300ZX at Q3 of 2012. Interesting on the graph you can also see the cars which are only being taxed for the summer months

To get a more accurate figure you would need to work out the ratio of Jap to UK cars on the road

I did chat about this with Jeff last time i was down at Z World, asked him if the ratio was someting like 2 : 1 Jap to UK cars, but he said from what he sees coming through the workshop the ratio was wider than that

I suppose a quick survey on here would give some indication? Then multiply the number of recorded cars by the ratio of UK/Jap and we would have a good idea

Maybe start a thread with a poll (or has that been done before?) If we do have a poll may as well add a few other questions like SORN, Auto/Manual, Turbo/NA, SWB/LWB, etc

We have done a few polls in the past, and it came out at something like 70% Jap, 30% UK. There were percentages for Manual, Auto , TT, NA, Targa, slicktop, convertible ..etc

It probably a couple of years old now, so could do with another.

EDIT: Have tried searching for it, but cant find it :(

Apart from being told by a friend i bet nearly all of the members here found this place via the internet and i bet at least 95% typed the word "forum" into the search engine.....

I bought my first tt Zed back in 2003, running, but serious overheating issues !

My main passion is American, always has been, always will be I suppose, jeez I run a Hemi Ram as a daily !!

Took me 4 months to find this club, it was recommended to me by a man selling a pair of heads, a Mr Dave Chung !

Had another 2 tt`s since then, and an n/a that was solely a breaker.

First meet I attended was at the Falkirk Wheel, in the fookin rain !! Well, it is Scotland ?

I would have been lost without this club/forum !

Will I ever own another Zed ? Must admit, in my heart, I really hope so !

Havent had one for a few years now, maybe not an active member, but still browse in several times a week.

As in response to the original question quite a few pages back;

You gotta seperate the wheat from the chaff ? Maybe, I dunno ?

There was a time when a Delorean was seen as one step up from a skip ? So time changes everything ?

Just my 2`ps worth !

As long as I am welcome, I will always be here.

Alan..................

Just while I am down memory lane, I have put up a few pics from a wet Falkirk meet, 2006 (ish) in the pics section !

Well if it is 70/30 and we assume roughly the same split of Taxed/Sorn for jap zeds then there are 1370 taxed japs + 587 taxed UK = 1956 taxed Zeds in total, and around the same number of SORN.... 1342 + 575 = 1916 So rounding up and down we have;

~2000 Zeds on the road in the UK

~1900 SORN

Total around 4000 cars, give or take.....

Hey that sounds likely to be not far from the truth don't you think?

Id say thats a fair estimation locally im aware of around 10 z32s only 2 including myself are subscribed members, and only 3 more are regis, this doesnt even allow for cars ive not seen or are in storage, I saw a new to me red na this morning!

Talking of putting the Z32 on the Map, Matt Samuel (Cowpatmatt) got a 1st place finish in his 300zx in the semi-pro class of the first round of the British Drift Championships this weekend at BDC ! :)

Just had a response from z1 today....

"Stephen,

Thanks for your message. We actually have something specific in the works regarding a UK rep. I expect you will see the results of this in the next couple months. We really appreciate our customers from across the pond and want to offer them a top notch level of communication and customer service."

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo sounds interesting :)

I've never had a problem with the service and comms from z1, fair enough it's been a bit shocking lately, but once you've sorted how much you need to pay its normally all good. The problem I have is the shipping/import costs. A UK rep sounds good if it means a UK distributor? Being able to buy the gear from z1 without the horrendous costs to get it here would be excellent.
