The Zeds been parked in the garage and only driven to the shops everynow and then. I drove it this morning and noticed the stock oil pressure gauge was sat on 0 for the full 10min drive. I've got aftermarket Option gauges which was sat on the max 100psi reading throughout!

I checked oil levels which look good and no leaks etc anywhere that I can see. The car drove fine as well.

Should I be worries? Likely just an issue with the sender unit? I didn't fit the aftermarket gauge so not familiar with how/where to check it but was planning to drive the car tomorrow for a bit longer so wanted to check with the knowledgeable folk on here whether I should be worried about dying at the side of the road!

do a search on the standard gauges to ease your mind, they arn't very good.

next time give the dashboard a slap and it may wake the gauge up

Just concerned as the Option gauge seems to be acting up too. Both gauges at the same time is a bit odd and the only think I could think of other than a full out issue was that they may both be hooked into the same sender unit.....

Cheers

Would it not be down to the cold weather/car sitting around and oil taking longer to circulate?

I've had my Z for nearly a year now and it's always done this as soon as the engine warms up the oil gauge drops to zero and once in a while it will give a reading and die back to zero. I know for a fact that there is nothing wrong with the engine so it must be a fault unit. as far as i'm aware this is a common fault with the Z's due to age, well so i was told.

Sounds like the classic old OEM sender unit failing.....

.....you'll know if the oil pressure is crap; just slowly raise the engine RPM to about 2500 and listen. If is sounds fit and healty with no bangs or rattles, all is good. If it bangs and rattles like a bag of spanners, the pressure is low and your engine is goosed!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
