once i got my car running i have a Modified plenum with all the PVC/water/Balance Ports removed

i was going to relocate the Balancing part of the plenum to the under/back side so it can not bee seen

but in doing this the Pipe will not be 23mm in size like the original balancing pipe

now i seen ppl have done a balancing bridge in front of the throttle body's .. i think this looks crap

as the Ports for the recirc/Bovs are on the same pipe work but quit a bit before... would it be poss or be ok to put a Link there and work the Bovs

back in ?

i will still be keeping some form of Balance pipe on the back of plenum still but would be more like 10>15mm as all so i will be running my Vac Manifold from it too Inline that way all so i would have Split 50/50 vac/poss pressure for all turbo/bov/gauge control

Cheers

Mark your smaller balance will be fine at the back on its own 15mm not 10mm though ;) you want the balance on the plenum after the throttle bodies putting it before them will have no real advantage as such other than a quick prebalance on boost whiich does help but i see no need to do so tbh

I've not had to mess with the balance bar myself. It's hard to say if a 10mm Ø will have an effect without suitable testing, which is simple enough as you've got twin wideband lambda sensors IIRC. You'll be at the level where you need to know exactly what everything is doing. The most important thing is to ensure each cylinder gets the same amount of fuel & air, with equalised air being a job entrusted to the balance tube. If one turbo overboosts, can you be certain a smaller diameter balance bar is going to be suffucient on its own? Will the added restriction mean one bank runs dangerously lean for a split second in the worst case scenario?

For peace of mind, given the amount of time & money spent on this, I'd want to know for sure. I would have a pre-TB balance tube, but then I love the look of it just before the TBs :)

yeah that was my thoughts too .. even the stock balance tube is not the right size to balance tubs if there is a Major differents

but i'm sure the balance/bov tube placement shouldnt be a problem its only around 18" from the Tb's anyways

yeah that was another thought too got to have a think about this ..

just getting cheesed off right now with delays on stuff ... 2 months ago this build should of been done

and the Postal service have lost my valve steam seals :(

Whats the point in pissing sbout, your spending big bucks on that build mark, deleting things or messing about with things of that type meerly for a cosmetic gain isnt worth it imo. It can be as pretty as a penny if it dont work its useless.

but thats the Point there is gains on stuff being removed ..

once i use the after market ECU there is no need for Idle Control unit or even the balance bar stuff on top of the plenum

all so with doing a Pre-balance pipe work makes it more tunable all allowing the Air Mix to be better for 50/50 split

some is cosmetic sure but why be the same as every one ?

  • Author

that part is for two reasons ...

Idle control valve gets blocked off ..

and cosmetic looks

You still need to ensure that the cylinders receive an equal amount of air. That is the most important aspect. K3 and newer ECUs have the ability to control individual cylinder fuel trims, but it's still a good idea to make things easy for it.

yeah thats why im still keeping a 10>15mm balance tube under the plenum and then a Pre Balance 32mm tube before TB's

I thought you said on FB Mark that balance pipes before the throttle bodies look shit

mark the idle is a pig to tune with out an idle control valve ive done it and wouldnt recomend it always occasional stalling issues unless you set tickover a little higher than normal pre warning you on this one

and then there's cold starts to worry about ...

where did you get the idea from, as sounds like you're doing it for the wrong reasons

hang on .. think we are getting a little confused here ..

Only Item on Left is being removed as it gets blocked off

But you've had the ports filled on the new plenum as well though?

I quite like this:

kinda .. i have no balance bar at top .. but i have a vac feed for the Idle unit at the rear that i need to Tap in to the under balance balance pipe ..

its very hard to explain on here
