Many of you may not be familiar with these but the apparent advantages are vast esp with bigger tubs. However my gripe as always is price! $700 is esp by the time they land here in the uk disgustingly expensive for some ali tube with some flanges welded on etc. once the settings are on the machine these are seriously easy to make and cheap, so that mark up must be horrendous. I think im going to have to start speaking to afew people about how much it would cost to have some made locally..

the cost of making the pipe work as one offs is massive i make intercoolers and pipe work for a living and still half considered ordering a set for mine as it takes so long to make by hand plust the cost of the alloy is quite a bit now if good quality not the ebay stuff thats chrome coated proper stuff

I can see how as getting the bends is trial and error to.a certaok n extent(i used to make stainless handrails and sprial staircases) however once you know the settings and are producing volumes production costs falls drastically. The stock system is made from mild steel is it notm so I see no reason why its got to be made from expensive alloy.

ive just made 2 intercooler pipes for someone complicated took 4 hours

but i fabricate all mine as one offs no pipe benders here :)

Seems to me it's alot about quality.

For example the price difference between a Greddy FMIC and a eBay FMIC is anyone seriously going to say that performance wise they are the same? These are made by Ashspec who have always done top quality parts that's what you are paying for. Not something that needs a bit if tweaking to fit I would say they would fit perfect and I have seen some types of cheaper IC pipes that simply do not fit and need cutting to fit.

Or even email Greg Dupree and ask what the quality is like on these or Coz. Top parts cost money and if you wanna run with big boys it ain't cheap.

you are spot on there i take a lot of pride in the setups i do here and a full pipe set for a tt would take about 2 days in fabrication for a perfect fit beauty of good alloy is you dont get any mild steel rusty contamination going through your tubs or engine :)

I take your point over things like intercooler rads etc where the welding and internal structure and overall build quality is paramount, howere when were talking about pipe... theres nothing mysterious or hidden or complex just tube bent at angles. AMS make a very similar kit which people are moaning about because of fitment issues around the engine mount, that I would be annoyed about, hardly ebay crap.

so I take it your cutting and welding sections to create the curves? triple rollor would be a lot quicker and easier, but obviously its and expensive bit of kit, mandrel bender would leave you with those annoying pinched parts, the kind you see on cheap exhaust systems.

roller bender to do the sizes i do is £18000 so i do all mine in lobster back works just as well :)

Lobster backing is very time consuming I remember doing my college project which was a series of lobster backs with a square to round each end, so I can sympathise with the time and attention involved. Theres a company locally to me called tube form technologies, literally all they do is bend tube, they used to do some bits for us when it wasn't so critical or we were overrun to cut on costs, I recon giving them a bell might be worth a shout as they have all the stuff to cut the production costs right down, obviously id need a complete oem set to copy to start with.

AMS have their own issues with a lot of people not liking them as they basically ripped off everyone else's parts and made them cheaper. So it isn't exactly their own R&D that has gone into them. That's one if the reasons a certain US company doesn't sell them and won't.

So maybe not eBay crap but if you get your hands on the kit all may not be as shiny as first seems and when you understand how AMS have produced a lot of parts they start to lose their appeal. I was all out for AMS until I started digging and found out this info. Now a lot of people don't care how much R&D has gone into the parts they use on their zed its normally cost orientated and cheapest wins all the time.

That looks seriously time consuming, do you use a purge line inside?

Yeah ive heard they are doing mass production in china and that's were the quality has slipped, you would normally associate the with quality stuff but its definatly not cheap enough to warrant the issues.

thats the pipe kit i have ..

yes yes lol you have all the toys I want lol

All our tooling is hand fabricated and takes ages, currently a 6-7 week backlog as we have so many to do!

Interesting read, would the tube need to be 63mm or would a say 57mm make a difference over the current 47mm i.d. pipe? I have a cunning plan....

I believe yh he pita bit is the piece from the the turbo front to the acordion pipe, because of the restriction, the stock ones are a damn funny shape.

i have a plan for them over next couple of months with idea of being able to use 3 or 4 inch inlets on the bigger turbos and eliminate the two bolt stuff. :-)

Nice pipes ;)

ooo u like ;-)

Oh yes the missing links are ribbed for extra pleasure lol

pleasure was all mine till i post them of to there new owner ;-)

I'll have a look at the car this weekend, thinking maybe improved silicone versions in places and even using stock metal piping as tooling to do some "trials"
