  • We did a video earlier this week, the Z hasn't been out the garage since July 2020. So happy for this, this is miles away from professional video, and the guy who helped me with the drone and editing,

Today nothing, but I did take the Zed out for a little drive the other day - and stopped for a couple of pics. Any excuse 😉

Step aside Impul, Azev are taking over here! That looks awesome Graham, a very well rounded package. [emoji41]

I agree - and those Azevs are STILL the best looking wheels on a 300zx IMHO....Looking great Graham.....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I drove mine out of the garage to test-fit my new front wheels, this time with 5mm spacers, to see if the extra 5mm is sufficient to clear the brakes..... And yes, they will. So now have the choice of getting some hub-dedicated spacers specially made from these guys

https://www.superforma.co.uk/ Albeit I am not keen on this option, as I'll definitely have to replace the studs...

Or taking up Stanced UK's offer of replacing the fronts with 30mm offsets in the same size at a decent discount... They would not replace the originals, as they were a special order and I've had them since May.

I must have that chat with Slick Pete before spending anymore money.... (I haven't forgotten mate:wink:)

And instead of putting the Zed straight back in the garage, I could not resist a little 20 minute drive - it was not a bad afternoon here; and the rain held off until I got home.

There’s nothing wrong with using longer studs Richard [emoji106] Have you found a supplier that can give you 5mm spacers with the hub centric lip? I would imagine they would be too thing to incorporate the lip, whilst accepting the OEM lip and maintaining the centre bore size (if that makes sense!).

I have no issues with using longer studs, but by the time I have bought the spacers and paid out labour to remove and refit new studs, I may as well take up the offer on replacing the wheels... Can't be bothered to do it myself, as I assume the callipers, discs and possibly hub have to be removed??

Generally, you won't find 5mm spacers with the hub-centric lip, which maintain the same centre bore - you're right, 5mm is just too thin!!. However the wheels have a larger centre bore than OEM - hence Superforma can machine a lip to fit the wheels, but maintain a snug fit on the hub lip.

This is a handy guide Richard. Although for the rear hubs, the principle described will be the same for removing

and replacing the front studs:

Superforma made the 40mm spare wheel spacers for me and did a very good job.

Cheers Andrew..... Still not sure I fancy doing it myself - but I will ask my local garage what it will cost to do it for me...!!

Been working on mine today too. Preperations for the MOT so had to get the lights sortes as i hadnt bothered since the respray to fit any fog lights, front indicators and also noticed i had a dicky number plate light..

So new fogs fitted that stay in tune with the venom lights

Found the issue with the number plate light which turned out to be a broken corroded terminal in the fitting, so stripped some new terminals out of some spare sidelight fittings and installed them in the original nissan housing.

Good as new again..

Then the old eagle eye LEDs had to be replaced as they dont last more than a few weeks without going rusty inside or the lenses fall out, so i had some motorcycle switchback sequential indicators left over from a bike project and got creative.

I stripped the indicators down and removed the lenses and LED sections and mounted them on some home made housings which i covered with carbon wrap.

The results were quite pleasing.

So all in all, quite a productive day.. just got to sort out the number plates as i think he may fail it with the current setup..

Finally fitted my JL audio subwoofer, that I must have bought from Joel 7-8years ago.

Dammit forgot to take the final photo.

This all seems like a lot of fuss IMO, I have 5mm H&R spacers on the rear with hubcentric lips, and there was enough thread left with my wheels to not bother with longer studs. Job done. As you already have a 5mm spacer, see if you can get enough turns on the nuts for it to be safe.

You do...? Everywhere I have tried says they are not available, as 5mm is too thin to have a hub-centric lip... Unless, like the Superforma option, I get them specially manufactured with the wider outer lip for the after-market wheels!! You must have been fortunate to find those mate!!

The 5mm spacers I tried on the front were not hubcentric - and the front studs are not long enough to get 5 turns of the nut, with the spacers. I guess the wheels are not drilled deep enough. The rears were fine though - and even when I added the spacers, I could still turn the nuts 5 times. Which I have been advised, is the minimum to remain safe.

How many turns on the nut is enough turns on the nut?

You know I'm doubting myself now....I think actually the hub lip stuck out enough that I could get the centre bore adapters on, so the wheel is still aligned when bolted up. The lips do nothing else but that. But either way, nothing fancy required for a 5mm spacer when I did it.

I think when I looked it up a few years ago I settled on 7 turns, which I got exactly. But don't quote me on that, don't want to put false safety related information out there

No worries Chris - and yes, I do believe there is still a little of the original hub lip sticking out with 5mm spacers. I just did not want to risk this on the front, though, as I have heard many horror stories of vibration at high speed, like the wheels being out of balance. I had this with my previous set of wheels, as I did not fit the spigot rings at first.

5mm should indeed be fine on stock studs too - however it appears my new wheels (fronts anyway) are not drilled deep enough to permit sufficient turns of the nut, when the spacers are added. And even with 5mm, there's just 2mm clearance between the callipers.

So, I have bitten the bullet and taken up the wheel supplier's offer to replace the fronts, with a revised offset, at cost. I still reckon this will work out no more expensive than to buy custom spacers and have the studs replaced. At least the wheels will slip straight on - and I have the chance to sell a pair of wheels to someone wanting a drifting set...
