Hi everyone,

 

When putting my car into 2nd gear it crunches, it seems to be only when the car has just been started, once the engine has warmed up she pops in 2nd fine and it's only 2nd gear it happens with.

Any ideas?

Mine does this too, apprantly its down to the wrong grade gearbox oil.

Ok cheers mate, I will look into changing it. Do you know if that's an easy job?

Just undo the sump plug and drain it out, put the plug back in and remove the filler plug (half way up the box) fill with new oil until it starts to drip out of the filler plug. I use MT90 gearbox oil, it helps reduce crunchy synchros and is a common choice.

Best to make sure you can undo the filler plug before draining. I hear they can be a pig to remove.

You will need the sump plug tool I have one you can borrow, from when I did mi if you usea socket you eont get the sam ws grip and ul **** the olug.ne.

? I never had a problem when I used a 1/2" socket extension to undo the plug.

Me either except my side one i.e the filling nut had been chewed by people doing this over the years, as its not quite the same size. so I couldn't get the bugger out, plus the fact that getting the ratchet up there was a pita.

Need to do mine soon as the Royal Purple i've got running in my gearbox is very notchy going from 1st to 2nd... Sometime it's a pig to get it in!!
