Hi, I have my zed booked in for paint at the end of march. But tonight my painter phones and say I can now do this plasti dip and the do a lovely matte red that would look good on your zed.!! But iv only seen a couple of pictures and im unsure of how it would affect say resale etc. It is basically a liquid wrap, looks quite cool and he has offeres to do it for fre as long as I buy the supplys at 300 quid!!

 

So whats everyones thoughts??

Do you mean the stuff that you can get in a spray can as well? If so DON'T DO IT, it'll peel at the slightest knock.

If its the proper American stuff then Yeh go for it, as it's way better than a rattle can and fairly durable after many layers have been built up

Its the proper american stuff, think the website is matt-pack.com really considering it.

Get it done. At 300quid it's a no brainier IMO

I wouldn't do it matt red would look awful imho, really would limit the people who would buy it aswell, plus I don't think the finish is no where near as good as paint

Guys maybe before You start to write info about something read about it, or watch movies (no offence)

I've used it directly on chrome trims without any primer (I was in a rush). Did the job well, although I did catch one of the targa trims with something and it peeled straight off.

 

Same as with any paintwork, it'll only look as good as the sprayer's skills allow.

Brought this up last week - the research i've done on it the general consensus is that it's durable IF you use quite a few layers, minimum of 4 but the more the better. You can put a gloss finish on it but as it's still experimental they haven't found a way of polishing it.

 

The car needs to be cleaned thoroughly first and air dried to ensure the water's out the gaps and then the panels need to be cleaned with the plastidip cleaner to ensure a good adhesion.

 

The big thing spraying it is that it has to use an airless spray gun (ie the one they provide or better) so if your chap is doing it he can't do it with a normal compressor otherwise it'll ruin the finish.

 

For £300 it sound like a good price, it'll cost you more to get the gun in from the states if matt is your thing and at least you can peel it off if you change your mind which you can't do if you've had the whole car sprayed in proper matt paint

Iv talked it over with my painter and we are going to respray the car first, because although I like it if I go to sell the car others may not. At least if the paint underneath is good then its a case of peeling it off. But this is most definitely going to happen soon!!

Sounds like the best idea, i know i'd be annoyed if i pulled the wrap off and found the paint was awful underneath!

You would never get it on a car straight from the factory as it isnt permanent, nor is it marketed that way!! That is why car manufacturer dont use it. However if like me and a few others on here, you like what might classed as lairy paint jobs then this is perfect as when you fancy a change/come to sell the car you can just peel it off. And best of all can be done for sub £500 of if you are keen enough and have the space it can be done for just the price of materials which is typically £200-300. Best if all if you mess it you just let it sit for over night and peel it off.
