Hey Guys,

 

Bought a zx off a fellow member but its started to develop a certain issue. While driving it is fine but sometimes almost can smell like something is burning, however once i stop smoke starts to rise from under the bonnet or under the car(no a massive amount but noticeable, smells like oil) . Had a look underneath and the engine and front bits look very greasy, could it be a oil leak?

 

Hicas light has come up during driving too but its just had the hicas pipes replaced and previous leak fixed at zed world two months back and it had a full check up! . :confused1:

 

So what could be the probable cause?

 

Any advice would be great!

If it smells like oil it'll be leaky rocker covers letting oil down the rear of engine.

If it's steam, it'll probably be a turbo water pipe split.

how much would it be to fix rocker covers? if it is!? any other symptoms?

burning oil smell and smoke from back of engine bay, does it do it all the time or just sometimes? its a plenum off job, not that bad in its self and you get to do a water bypass as well which lessens the split hose worry, wouldn't take long to do, just make sure you either have water hose for the bypass, or enough to renew the tiny ones that go on the underside of the plenum.

 

Depending what rocker cover it is, will depend on the time involved, one top ones are easier to get off, the outer ones are a little bit harder but not impossible, then just a case of renewing the rocker cover gasket and putting them back on.

 

Hicas light, could be a drop in power steering fluid, top it up might just of had a bit of trapped air still in the system that its just released.

 

How did she get on at jeffs?

Jeff did the hicas and powersteering and gave it the all clear, according to the previous owner, this is a different zed btw. So i am guessing it happened now? as he's had the car sitting for the last three months in a garage locked up. o.O

 

It only happens sometimes, if you open the bonnet you can see its coming up from behind the engine, at other times there is nothing, but occasional burning smell too.

 

Sometimes the smoke comes up from underneath the car for a few seconds at the front, very thin smoke.

Sounds like leaky rockers too me, however if you havent done many miles since your hicas leak was fixed thereis still going to be loads of atf to burn ogf on the exhaust etc.

might also be worth checking the pips from the PCV valves, as the one from the passengers side goes behind the engine to the back of the rocker cover on the drivers side..

hmm considering i am a newbie, this is falling out of my knowledge level lol. wish there was a specialist nearby me for these quick check ups. will try and get some pics today, if the rain stops. Hopefully that will shed better light on the issue!

another issue was that my oil pressure gauge isint working, could it be related or is there an easy fix for that?

Yeah sorry about yesterday spent the afternoon at hospital with Jeff!

 

Just checked the paperwork on your car please find listed below work carried out on 23/10/12;

 

De-Limiter,

Front Fog Light Bulb,

Oil & Filter,

Main Power Steering Pipe,

Hicas high Pressure Pipe (customer supplied)

 

So as you can see no Water by Pass at the back of the engine, the customer did not want an assessment on the car.

 

Didn't you speak to Jeff last week about this car?.

If you can call Jeff after 12 today he will be able to speak to you.
