as you all may know i run my own Model Shop biz here

and things have not been going to well over the last few years 2012 and this Christmas has been the worst of it up to now

and i am un-serton on how its going to work out in the future

when things go wrong for ppl this retail goods are the first to go as funds do not permit the pleasure in doing it

as its I WANT not NEEDS MUST Product ..

so when ppl are short of cash or recession is said on the news .. or even the weather i get left high and dry

2012 has been nothing but Paying my debts and i assume its like that for most

but its getting the point my heart is not driven in it now

I Dont know what to do

i feel my expertise can be put to a better demanding market with Cars ..

Not sure if its going to be with Mapping/Mechanics/Dynos/Installs-Audio

i do have some backing on what i choice but all so will be a joint venture

im just not sure what to do

People have no money Mark, prices are going through the roof, petrol and running a car, council tax, utility bills, food and today water charges are going up above inflation.

The economy will never pick up as all these things come first before luxury items, holidays, moving home, etc.

Those in work get screwed every which way within an inch of your life.

My father had a model railway shop many years ago, he shut up shop, and as sold just mainly hornby spares online for the last 15 years.

Whichever corner you turn I wish you well :cool3:.

the above isn't a bad suggestion, why not try moving away from a shop premises and doing mostly mail-order and selling a few bits from your shed, cuts down on overheards and gives you more free time to do other projects.

wish it was that simple ... with in the contract of the Major suppliers we have to have a Shop front/counter to sell there goods

quot " to keep the shops running & customer support"

so my 5 main suppliers will not deal with me soon as i shut the shop

the Market for Hornby/bachmann railway is all most dead due to the public age that would be doing it

the Highlight for that Product was 20>10 years ago with all the Older generation doing it

u dont see younger kids/adults doing it now ... Once due to the cost of the product.. but most of all is games consoles

I suppose a big factor is what services you're qualified/capable of offering to the customer, avoiding biting off more than you can chew etc

The Jap RC drift scene seems to be growing at the moment, would that be a potential change of focus for your model business? There's a big demand for indoor RC race/drift tracks

Is there scope for you to utilise the same premises for RC or to run the car audio side of things from?

Sorry to hear that Mark. Sadly I don't have any suggestions other than what's been said - but I hope things work out for you mate.

I can relate to that! I loved building/running my old train layout when I lived with my parents many years ago - and whenever I see one now, I often think how much I'd like to do the same thing all over again.... But finding the time around work - and convincing Julia that we should lose one of the bedrooms - always puts it into perspective for me.

And you're right about the price of some of the kit; I still have most of my old stuff safely stashed back at my folks' house - but it is almost as expensive a hobby as owning a 300zx!!

Sadly it's a sign of the times....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
