Heard something quiet scary today. My ex girlfriend (on good terms) went to a tax seminar - without going into details tax is changing in April. Its a possibility that eventually HMRC will be in charge of paying everyone, then billing companies for the wages!!!! So your company will tell HMRC how much to pay you then THEY HMRC will be in charge of paying you. Taxing at source. Scary shit. Next it will be Brussels deciding on how much we will be getting paid seen as they dictate everything else!

HMRC couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery! This is terrifying!! How about they sort out the mahoosive tax loopholes & start taxing the big companies & let organisations' payroll departments sort out wages as they always have done?

They closed the Jersey tax loophole and play.com have announced today that they are closing their retail dept from March 2013

Me neither - it will cost far too much to administer and every employee would be at the mercy of trusting the tax office to get their wages right. It'd never work!!

 

Not to mention all the many payroll bureaux businesses throughout the country suddenly being put out of business. The only change I am aware of is the real-time reporting issue Andrew posted a link to - but that's no big deal as most computerised payroll packages will be updated for the new rules.
