Featured Replies

Think your caps lock is stuck on m8 or are you shouting at us ? lol

but the answer to your Q ... brake overhaul is a good start followed by good discs and pads EBC Red Stuff are quit good option ..

but not sure about your bent range rover

His looking at them big range rover brembos I bet, and either ment a crashed one or if his real dodgy a bent one lol.

If u use bigger calipers, think gtr or 350z are cheapest.

Gotta make sure your wheels clear them.

And even more importantly that the lug spacing is the same as the Z32. Or else you will be going down the road of having adaptors made.

It's been said before - but some still doubt it - that the stock ZX brakes are actually very good...... When working properly; as years of hauling a 1.5 tonne high performance car will no doubt have taken their toll on the brake components.

So rather than buy a big brake upgrade, if your car is stock (ish) and not used on a track, then just go for new standard kit. You can buy fully re-furbed calipers from a company called "Big Redd" on an exchange basis - then get new Brembo (stock replacement) discs and pads from Ebay for reasonable money. That will be more than adequate for most peoples' needs - without the big price tag of a mega upgrade!

Im not going to disagree Richard ......BUT................................

The other people who dont come under your heading of "most people" find that the stock set up fades quickly after repeated "spirited" use on track and even on the public roads hence we go for upgrades.

The "best value" is to use 350Z or Skyline calipers and matching discs. Superb OEM Brembo quality and significantly more stopping power under heavy repeated use. And no special brackets adaptors etc needed.

Remind me to take you out in mine mate when we meet up again and you will see what Im on about.

so 350z and r33 skyliners brake set up with there own dics and pads yer, oh ive got 18 " wheels so should be ok then yes.

when im buyin the braided brake lines are they the same as ours to or do i need to get them made up as well? thanks

Or r32 gtr calipers and discs.they use slightly bigger discs. calipers look the same as z32 but are spaced outwards to allow for bigger disc can get cheapish .No diffrent bolts or spacer brackets or hoses needed .

if my calibers are from a man 1990 uk tt then from that can you tell me if there ally. or cast iron caz theres a different in price for the process that big red do. roughly speaking about strip refurb and paint about 165 to 195

iirc all UK's were fitted with cast iron callipers.

Correct!

also later J spec cars. Nissan dropped the ally caliper. ser 3 or maybe 4. I know my ser 4 Version S had cast calipers

Wasn't it a problem with warping or something?

I completely agree - many years ago I rebuilt my stock calipers & fitted uprated discs & pads & while this is a massive improvement over a set of brakes with sticking calipers (which mine was & probably many others on here have without even realising LOL!) it was never really good!

The Brembo GTR upgrade is a massive improvement over a fully working stock system & the benefits are immediately obvious - in fact as Nissan had these in their parts bin I do wonder why they did not fit them to the zed as standard, especially on the TT version!

a fairly cheap & well worthwhile upgrade :)

I suspect this is because the contemporary GTR was the early R32 which didnt have the brembo brakes, the R33 was introduced in 95 (although it looks like the Brembo brakes were fitted to V spec R32 GTR's in 93 first) by 95 the Z32 was 6 years old so probably Nissan were not to interested in re-engineering all the brakes etc. Although of course they spent a fortune for the 99 spec on it but with Nissan, who knows!

I would consider the D2/K Sport option. I had this on my last one and they were brilliant, far better than rebuilt standard calipers with relocation brakets that I had on my first zed.

My only gripe against the R33 brembo calipers is that they are say 15 years old and have probably had a hard life, lets say you get a set for £400-£500 (300 no discs) which seems the going rate. Factor in new lines, pads etc thats another £150. Then the discs, well the ones that are with the calipers might be ok but they might not so good discs will be £200 a pair I'd have thought. Then youve got to think about the state of these old calipers, they will probably want rebuilding so seal kits have to be taken into account. I cant actually find any at the moment but when I last saw them they were expensive, 100 a caliper at one point!

I actually went down this route with the Evo big red calipers, I got some for a bargain of £80 but by the time I had factored in rebuilding them £100 a kit for seals at the time on brembo calipers, new discs pads, lines etc I was up to £600+ I got my D2's for that, a bargain I'll admit. But for that you can get a brand new warrantied kit with everything in the box.

Having said all that, these look a good price!
