Early this week my works manager turned up in his new car, It's only a Mercedes SLK 350!! (auto by the way)

Can't bring my self to ask him about performance etc'.

Suffice to say he has taken great pleasure in telling me how much quicker the thing is compared to my Z !!!!

Anybody know much about them? not that I care you understand. (not)

most have a stock time of 6.5 to 7 secs 0 to 60 your zed should be quicker if you can launch it properly, the merc will launch itself far more consistently and easier.

If yours is standard, he might well be right... but only by a few tenths of a second....

But let's be honest... One is an absolute classic head turner that is 20 yrs old, and still looks better than most things on the road...... and the other is a girls car :)

Damn it!!

But you are right, I would not swap my Z for it. (come to think of it, there isn't much I would swap my Z for)

Hes alive..... :D

Id say the same as above, unless it has AMG under the bonnet, id be surprised if your 20 year old car didn't show him up slightly.

Tell him in your best F&F American accent that 'it ain't how you stand by your car...it's how you drive your car that counts' and hint that a 20 year old car can pick up a lot of modifications over the years

then confidently offer to race him for 'slips' :ninja:

*Note: if yours isn't a TT and he actually takes you up on the challenge, phone in sick until after Christmas!

Don't know if u guys agree but the zed don't seem that great off the line, trys to spin up.

My cousin had an evo not sure what one but big silly spoiler on the back lol.

From a stop I allways struggled but rolling over about 50, the zed made it look stupid.

I bet it would be the same with that merc, the zed on the motorway is a bit of an animal, and I'd say would hold its own with some big motors.

I'd say that's about right mate, from a standing start it's not great but when on boost it picks up fairly rapidly and go's through 2nd-4th gear pretty swiftly

And his evo was the most boring thing I've ever driven, was fast but didn't fill like it just put it down.

The zed when your fighting it trying to keep it straight allways gets my heart pumping and feels so much quicker even though it ain't.

His sold the evo now bought a Celica gt4 it's got over 400bhp. Some expensive Toyo tyres that bloody grip.

U can rev it has high has u like drop the clutch, there's no wheelspin feels like it jumps off the bloody floor.

But still so boring, maybe it's me I hate 4wd, the other thing I hate is I can go round a corner and feel when the zed is gonna let go so can really push it.

Both his evo and gt4 maybe it's me not used to 4wd but they both seem to give u no warning and feel like I have no confidence and won't push it.

Or it could be I've had the zed for bloody years and i know it more then I know my misses lol.

As above I've got a few friends with evos and stock v stock I'd say the zed is a quicker car it comes on boost much sooner and has more torque over more of the rev range, in an evo nothing happens until 4k rpm then it goes mental which is fun at first but less drivable in the real world as your forever changing gear to get it on the power, as for the slk I'd say with a good launch you should leave him especially after 2nd gear

Heh heh.....

.....I sure do have one myself - a facelifted 2009 model which has 305bhp. And whilst I dearly love my ZX, unless yours is modified he won't be disappointed in a shoot out mate! The autos are faster than the manuals; the 7g-tronic gearbox is much more advanced than autos of old!! The auto SLK350 will do 0-62 in 5.4 with ease (60 is something like 5.2); so very similar to a stock manual ZX (even a tad faster perhaps)...... And 100mph takes no time at all. It's a fantastic engine TBH; both the engine/'box are extremely, instantly responsive; it pulls as strong as a train to 100 and beyond and I've had no bother outrunning a UK spec Supra Mk4 TT....

But when it's so close on paper, it comes down to the ability (and balls) of the driver!!

.......The ZX does have the edge over 100 though; and even with the AMG sport suspension pack I have on the Merc, the ZX has the more planted feel at very high speeds (especially now I have my Meister Rs fitted)! What one should appreciate though, is that just how great a car the 300zx is when driving the two back to back. The fact that a Nissan designed in the late 1980s can still hold its own dynamically, and in all other respects, with one of Germany's finest modern machines is a testament to how good the Z32 is!!

What do I prefer to drive - what do you think? Pabs is right; the 300zx is a classic head-turner and I love the whole "feel-good" factor about driving it - that and the admiring glances and comments I get when I'm out in the ZX:laugh:
