My Z is scaring me a bit lately.

When i turn the wheel at 30 degrees while driving the car does not seem to turn enough so when i turn the wheel more the car steering hits a byte point and turns but with a NASTY JURKING byte)

Feels like aquaplaning but I cant see why as my tires are only a year old and a good brand

any ideas?

Could try bleeding the power steering probworth checking it over and seeing if it leaking too maybe from the steering gaiters or a small hole in a pipe that may be letting air in

Have u tried turning the steering wheel while parked.

Check it left and right being gentle while watching the wheels see if there's any play.

Even better if u can jack it up and check for play, even maybe something like steering rack moving left and right then catching and getting your steering.

Has it got hicas check rear wheels for play too.

Sounds like somethings moving and then catching causing it to start to steer.

Goodluck and hopefully it's something easy, but then it's a zed..

sounds like the lower universal joint where the column meets the rack, remove the steering shaft and check its free,do not undo the uj on the rack as youll have problems getting the steering wheel straight again. You may be able to free it up with WD40.

just checked the fluid levels and theres plenty in the hicas pot. I've had the rear hicas ball joints replaced a few months ago so i cant think it would be that. Have also checked around the top of the engine for leaks and cant see anything suspect.

The problem did go away yesterday but its back again so maybe it is the rack. Not looking forward to jacking the car up in this weather :(

sounds like a seizing/dry/worn universal joint to me :)

Just a quick update.

Took the car to the garage for inspection and they said the steering rack bush on one side has come away, so when i turn the wheel the rack is twisting a bit.

New bushes on order then

See told ya rack is moving lol. Sounds like u solved it but there quite a bugger to change when engine is in the car.

Goodluck.

U most likely know but u can get uprated poly bushes quite cheap proberly cheaper then oem bushes.

sure is, the drivers side one was the worst job I've had to do on mine, took bleeding hours to get the bugger in place.

just orderd some from the zcenter. I thought by looking at the picture, the bush has a slot so you can just slip it on?

Yeah kind of goes round it but it ain't that simple,

No room down there lol.

I change turbos on mine and a couple of friends zed with engine in the car and I'm saying there buggers lol.

Off topic I know but ive just pulled my engine and done mine he pass side since my deletes looks easy on the car but I know that manifold is a dick. How do you get at them from below? And I dont even want to think about the drivers side..

Hi,

Passenger side turbo I think is the harder one of the 2,

Driver side remove master cylinder and joint from steering column to rack, then all the pipe work,

And u end up with a fair bit of room

Passenger side, I removed it with the whole manifold, one manifold nut is a f@#Ker and that's all that stops u unbolting it easy, so what I do is undo the 4bolts that bolt the turbo housing together and put a bar on it and knock part of turbo round.

So can get to last nut on manifold. I actually left that nut off on my and have never had a blow or any problems and can change turbos easy.

I'm at work I'll try when I get home take some pics and explain better if u like I'll start another thread if it helps anyone.
