Bit of a newb question but should I be worried about this?

Afternoon guys,

Started my zed up this afternoon to run it for a short while (it's off the road now for winter), just to make sure that there are no problems with it, no leaks or anything, and of course to keep the battery charged...

I know it's been sat for a week and its been cold but there seemed an awful lot of smoke coming out the exhaust - is this normal or should I be concerned?

Vid of smoke below:

Also, after turning the engine off, for a minute or so after the engine goes off there are some small wisps of smoke that come from the exhaust as well, see other vid:

Am I just being paranoid or is there anything that I should probably check out?

Thanks

Alex

Sorted out your video encoding as it wasnt showing the first video.

That's showing condensation off the exhaust mate, all 7 zeds have done the same in the colder months, once warmed up it will calm down a bit, but thats actually normal for a 300zx in winter lol

head gasket would be thicker smoke than that with possible lumpy idle and definitely not a smooth engine tone, oil burn would have a blue hue to it, and black soot would be over fueling.

I'd say that it is a lot of condensation, but it does look quite thick. What does the smoke smell of? If it has a sweet smell, it will be coolant. If it doesn't really smell of much, it's just condensation. Did it eventually stop?

Don't worry about the 'afterburner effect', mine does it. Looks pretty cool in all fairness

That's normal, not really a good idea to keep starting your engine up from cold and letting it idle, too keep the battery charged up, get yourself a solar powered trickle charger for that. They are very cheap.

Mine does give out a lot of condomsation in winter too, I did read that the more 'naturally' formed condomsation produced during combustion, the more efficient it is running, think it was said by one of the zed gurus on here. And yep, I know it's spelt condensation, I'm just childish :)

Thanks guys - the smoke doesn't really smell of anything and does die down after about 15 minutes once the engine has warmed up properly (I do take it for a short spin on the private roads near where I live, so it doesnt just idle).

Just wanted to make sure I wasn't just being paranoid :)

Oh and btw carmad - the car does still have cats in it at the moment... although I plan on changing that over winter!

Cheers

exhaust is a Japspeed one only fitted about 5000 miles ago by previous owner so shouldnt be rotten already?

Hi

Couple times I've taken my exhaust systems off in one, then stood it up right against the wall the amount of water that came out would shock ya.

When it's on my drive its parked down hill and some rain must go into my exhaust I have 2 single boxes so could get in easy.

Along with condensation etc.

Never really thought about it but even when I jetwash motor and spraying rear bumper etc, don't take no notice if it's spraying in my exhaust, :scared:

Most likely needs a good run get all the moisture or water in my case out.
