A few of you may have read my post, I am now an owner of a 94 UK tt.

It's my first powerful, and my first turbo car but mine is in need of major tlc, especially on the body. My main concern is the boot and centre panel between the rear lights. Where would be the best place to get a tail gate and the panel. I've found a few breaking but I'm not sure if going to a breakers is the best option.

I'm budgeting up to £1000 to spend on the body. It needs possibly a new N/S/F wing, spoiler, tail gate, bumper resprays and a few other bits and bobs. Bit of a project to be honest but i hope the end result will be worth it.

Also where can I find the paint code of the zed? I haven't had a look, but I know on Scoobies it's on the VIN plate.

Featured Replies

Hi mate, everything you need is readily available check out our items for sale section. A breaker would be fine for the tailgate and panel, I'd hate to think how much Nissan would charge for a new one..lol

Paint code is on the VIN plate and consists of two letters and one number i.e. KH3 is the code for Gloss black after 1993. There are a few colours that are three numbers with no letter code.

What colour is your new baby?

id steer clear of nissan i got a quote for just the spoiler unpainted was over £500 and 3 week wait.... bad times

as above find a breaker theres a few on here and loads on fleebay although id trust the people on here when it comes to describing/delivering and generaly being helpfull and knowledgable over fleebay any day

Well at those prices Nissan won't be getting any custom off me haha

And steams, it's a metallic grey.

I want to go over everything at the weekend anyway. I drove it back from London yesterday and it was dark by the time I got back, and working till 5pm I can't really do anything at night.

Driven the zed to work today. I've had some really strange noises. I've got a grinding noise in 2nd and 3rd when I accelerate and theres a whirring/scraping noise from the cam belt area. Really doesn't sound healthy at the moment. I'm a recently qualified technician anyway so when i get a chance I'll look further into it, but just wondered if there were any common faults, especially with the manual box.

Was going to ask as well, is there any specialists in Somerset? I'd like someone to go over her, purely for the fact I have no idea about these and have never really been interested in them.

If it's manual and making a grind whine type noise in gear, check under gear stick there's a couple rubbers that go together if there off or lifting a little you'd be surprised at the noise.

A '94 UK isn't too early, but do check the front and especially rear sills for corrosion. As said above, a lot of road/gearbox noise can come into the cabin if the rubbers under the shifter have worked there way free or are damaged, usually in 2nd and 4th i think, as this pulls the rubber away. The whirring/scraping noise could be a duff bearing in a pulley/pump/alternator, or many other things :) Ask any question you like on here and you will get a cracking answer, also at the end of my waffling I'll give you a link to the online service manual, you'll need it, as taking one of these to bits is, well I wouldn't say any harder than any other car, just different, any problems, post some pictures up on here and videos of noises etc. and you will get the best help. Also, buying from here is the best place, top people/knowledgeable enthusiasts, although not all the parts you need are for sale at the time you need them, but bung an ad up in the wanted section.

A quick google search and you should be able to find a downloadable version matey... Congrats on the purchase, welcome, and try not to get too bitten by the zed bug, or it'll never end haha :)

Thanks for that, and with the scraping it shouldn't be a bearing or pulley cam belt kit was replaced not long ago. There's a receipt for the tensioner alone at £350+ from a Nissan dealer. And the sills have also been repaired during it's life with the previous owner.

Hoping to get a chance at the weekend to get it up on a ramp at work. I want to make sure everything is good before I go and blow my budget on it :)

Hi and welcome mate....

Congratulations on your new purchase - sounds like you have a couple of issues to iron out. If you're after a ZX specialist we have 2 on here; JeffTT owns Zedworld; probably the best 300zx garage in the world but he's miles away from you in Birmingham. However Jimmer (Powerzed) is in Bristol and also has much experience of all things 300zx related.

As for the colour of your car; a grey UK spec 1994 car would be KL1. I believe it's called "Tempest Grey Graphite Pearl" well, at least according to the sales brochure it is!

Good luck,

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Cheers mate, yeah looked at zedworld already. Coleshill isn't to bad as I use to I've just outside Coventry anyway and visit my friends and family up there. I noticed they do a £30 check to make sure everything is up together and functioning ok. i wouldn't mind doing that as I have jumped into a world I know nothing about haha

It is KL1 btw, nice guess :P

Ok guys, had the car up on the ramp today. Looks pretty tidy, no holes which is nice to see. Got a little bit of play in the rear wheels but nothing I'm to worried about yet.

Got round to balancing all the wheels but there is still a vibration from 40+mph. Maybe prop balancing??

And also found a few leaks. The diff is soaked, the bell housing is soaked and the turbos are soaked. Are there any common problems with oil leaks? Not sure about the box, maybe crank seal but the rocker gaskets I guess are gone and the drive shaft flange seals are gone.

Not sure :)

Hi there mate,

ZedWorld are great, been there a few times and always do a good job. Got my turbos replaced by Jim at Powerzed and Bristol ain't to far away, he did an awesome job and a top bloke too. Worth giving both a call.
