Just a quick question about the vote in 2014.

Does anybody know if ALL Scottish born people get a vote or is it restricted to only people that live in Scotland?

Reason I ask is I'm from Scotland and so is my family but have always considered myself as British and only British. I have lived in England for 32 years. Now if Scotland chooses to be independent I will loose my British nationality and effectively become a Scottish national living in a foreign country. At least that's what I think would happen. Therefore I think that ALL Scottish born people should get a vote, as it does affect them.

I realise that the Independence vote is a contentious issue so please keep the replies relevant to my question.

That's just it mate, I don't know what will happen..lol

Let me know if you find out anything..

Its only resident voters In scotland, everything else will be local elections who you vote for to put in the chair. you will still b governed by you the english counterparts in cambridge And westminster even all though you are a defecting jock. Lol.

its all very confusing a deal of my family are scotish but they consider themselves british. same as im english and i consider myself english they are out countries and britian is like our own subcontient. i do not consider myself europeon. i guess if your not living in scotland the goveremnt no longer count you as scotish. :s in reality though were all goverened by brussels. its all billy bull crap.

The franchise in a Scottish independence referendum would be the same as for a Scottish Parliament election and for a local council election.

Nearly 800,000 Scots live in other parts of the UK but they will not receive a vote in this poll.

Some 400,000 people from elsewhere in the UK reside in Scotland and they will receive a vote in the referendum.

Hows that?

well that sucks ass then and might I just say. Typical of the SNP.

Biggest mistake ever breaking up the British Isles, we would still have to fund Scotland if they went independent, so they only want to be independent of rules and laws, infact some of the laws are different up there, but cant see what the benefit is, or is it because i dont really care lol

Have to get that wall pointed up again ;)

In all fairness it is quite interesting to see what will happen, I work for a scottish company despite being english so I did wonder if any change in employment or tax law if it became independant would affect me or not? I think the argument for oil is somewhat weak - I know a few guys who work "up there" in the oil and gas trade, they say that a good percentage of the employees are english anyway so their wage would come back to england.

tbh, there are a LOT of questions that haven't been answered by either the government or the SNP. What about the armed forces, The Royal Mail, The Pound etc. etc.. the list goes on.

So you're against it then yes?

though ive never really seen the point in scottish independence, it would of made more of a difference ages ago but not now the banks have fooked everyone.

Hes made a good living spinning that dream though? My family are from up that way and in all the visits Ive never met anybody pro Salmon..

So who votes for him? its Rylan again all over..

I love being British and it gives me more teams to cheer (apart from Murray, cant stand him.. lol) I hope it stays this way..

I live closer to Edinburgh and Glasgow than London, so when does the North East get independence? lol..

Since seeing this thread Ive asked loads of people the question and nobody has a clue... Thats interesting in itself.... Makes me look intelligent though..

They couldnt build Holyrood on time or on budget, heaven knows what will happen to the country..:shifty:

yes ian im fiercly against it coz salmond is an ass plainly n simply.....if somone with some brans n had thought it out a bi better then yes i would go for it..but as it stands the snp have been proven liars in resent weeks so no im not for a break up of the union...as of yet..the way things are we need to stick together n pull through this self inflicted(n by self inflicted i meant the ones in power) desaster that is the double dip ressesion

tbh the place is going to f00k n im not going into a political rant

ill leave with this

INDAPENDANT SCOTLAND = NO...LOOK AT THE REP OF IRLAND..nuff said

I can admit to being one of the few people who voted SNP at the last election (although they had a landslide victory so there must be more like me), if you had asked me this time last year if I would vote for independence I would have said no but now I am undecided! One of the main reason for my indecision is they way the coalition government have tried everything they could not to allow the referendum these people are here to serve the public whether we are English, Scottish or British and as the majority of Scotland voted for a party who's main policy was to have an independence referendum then this has to happen! To be honest it is not something that I find is discussed daily and I find it is something I am asked about more often by people from south of the border.

It wasn't so much that they wouldn't allow the referendum to take place, it was more to do with the SNP wanting Devoultion max included as a back up option. As the devo max option would have affected everyone in the uk, it wasn't fair to just allow the Scottish to vote on it. Devo max and Independence are two very separate things and would need to be addressed differently.

Not sure if devomax was as important to the SNP as you might think as they dropped it like a hot potato when they were offered what they really wanted which was the reduction in the voting age!
