oh dear,

I made a big hole lol,

found some rust in the seams so decided to cut it out and at the same time I will be able to get rid of where my hicas use to bolt too.

got a new bit welded in, but couldn't take no pics cause it poured down with rain. hopefully be able to grind wields down and make it nice and smooth.

To bloody big lol,

it had to come out there was rust in the seam sealer,

I done it aanother way, welded the little box section bit in, then made the shape but instead off folding it up the side of the box section bit I welded it to the bottom,

so there ain't 2 sheets together with no paint and no seam. other side of box section gonna use an hole cutter and make a hole so can spray some primer, paint and then dinitrol.

and hope it will be ok lol.

This is what' I have done, hopefully it will be ok,

started grinding welds down but rain came again lol, so just sprayed some primer and black paint over it to stop it rusting till next weekend, then gonna grind wields flush and put thin skim of filler over it.

please be nice not the greatest welder

bolted two pieces of angle iron together to make a brake to fold metal to make the little bit of box section, and drilled an hole welded a nut on the back where the wing bolts too.

then welded the box section

then had to make the big flat part In a couple pieces, this is where it got hard and made it so it didn't have 2 pieces of metal against each other like factory with seam sealer.

I just welded it to the sides,

and then it rained so painted it black, so don't rust, it looks terrible I know but hopefully when I grind wields down and skim of filler I hope it shouldn't be seen or I'll start again.

again please be nice I'm a mechanic, don't do bodywwork but thought I'd try.

Anyone reckon it will smooth out or have I done it so wrong lol.

do u guys who weld bits and smooth them use filler or do u get it right that u don't need it.

your doing OK m8 just as long as you weld it all in 1 strip as the metal will warp, as you have the little welds is ok then join the dots from both sides middle out to the next set of welds, that way the heat is distributed, then grind it back and use your paintable seam seal in but the attempt is good.

was hoping to not use seam sealer, and try to smooth it all out with filler will that be ok,

trying to weld without the Seams there.

gonna do the other side and move fuse box too.

cheers for your reply.

the seam sealer will give it that factory finish once you paint over it, do it right and it wont trap the water, you can get brushable sealer. if you fill it, it will be alot of work in the corners etc when you try to smooth down before prep and paint. its up to you m8.

just booked it in with my bro in law his gonna paint the whole car for about the 3rd bloody time lol.

this time I'm taking care of it. it's staying in the garage.

he said just leave it alone and he will fix it, and just do what I do and take the lump out and he will do what he does.

think his trying to tell me something.

suppose he can do all the bodywork but phoned me the other day having trouble changing his spark plugs on a ford couger.

thanks again for reply.

booked in for 15th of next month. whoop whoop. going arctic white again.

then gotta put it all back together without scratching it, oh dear.

  • Author

me to, white looks cool when freshly painted but it's addictive everytime it gets a few scratches needs a respray lol.

sleeve I'm lost lol,

made it like the bit I took out. was only one piece of metal.

should I have.

  • Author

If I'm thinking of the bit your on about,

its the side where I have not cut into, side I welded had nothing in it.

yeah just welded a patch in. will this be ok the 2nd pic down from the top of page shows nothing in it to the right of the hole has lots of metal in there.
