At first i thought no, but it would likely run windows xp without any real issues.

ok, since its an arm style chip then no x86 software will run without emulation, so no windows allowed !

 

but debian works great on it which the folks who make it let you download it from there site directly.

yeah .. but then its getting the other software to work with the OS

It could be used to run a car pc but it would struggle to run software such as centrafuse etc. The biggest downfalls I can see is the lack of sata ports for hdd expansion, the audio output quality will be pants without a decent sound card and the lack of extra USB connectivity. In my carpc I have 11 peripherals connected via USB and a few of them throw a paddy if being connected through a hub. You can get a decent m-atx based carpc for that which will do everything you need and more without taking masses of space.

And that! Which renders a carpc pointless IMO as the main reason for having one would be the versatility of application.
