17's or 18's on a SWB? - Reigniting the debate! - Pics inside!

Right, well just need to know what you guys think

I'm sure this has been discussed in the past(not when I was on here)

anyways my SWB is on 17's... specifically 9j and 10j

I have a choice of going for 18's for fair amount of cash or keeping these 17's or getting different 17's for not so much cash

so what are people's opinion on 17's and 18's, personally I love 18's on the Z32, but I am planning on making my Z into a semi-track car and I'd like to run decent slicks or semi-slicks which 17's be best for.

looks wise... what you guys think?

Mine as 17's very similar to yours and although I get ribbed on a lowered SWB they look fine.

I am going to put some 18's on this week to see if they take my breath away, if not I am sticking with 'em.

Suggest if yours was lowered, particularly the rears the look will improve further, also a spacer on the fronts :cool3:

Personally on my LWB I always had 18's (and dabbled with 19's at one stage which I really disliked) however 18's in my opinion just look too big on a SWB. I prefer the look of 17's as they suit the profile of a shortie' just right

please excuse the crap camera phone pic (and those cobwebs on the rear have purposely been put there in preparation for Halloween, and not because it's been sat there for months waiting for my lazy ass' to sort the brakes out :whistling:)

Thanks guys, yeah the rear needs to come down a bit, just need to roll the arches first

I think 17's will be ok especially when I'm planning to run semi-slicks

I have genuine BBS LM's on the way for this, I'll either sell these Work Wheels or keep 'em as spares

Nothing wrong with either 17s or 18s TBH mate......

......it all depends on the style of the wheels IMO. I had 17s on my red ZX (although it was a LWB); but the Azev A rims really suited the car and filled the arches nicely. I now have 18s on my blue ZX (also a LWB) which look equally as good - and Gaz's SWB looks the business with the 18s he has fitted.

Looking at your pics, I reckon the 17s you have really suit the car too - so I'd keep them if it was me!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Depending on style, for look I will go with 18".

However, because you want to go on track, I will stick with 17".

Cheaper tyres and also slightly more sidewall would be good for performance. :)

Agree with this. For a track focused car 17" would be the best option (Slick Pete could give you good advice) but for looks on a road car 18" are hard to beat even on a SWB. I have 25mm spacers on the front and the zed sits on standered non lowered suspension I have no rubbing on normal driving conditions but push it hard on small country roads and you would get slight rubbing on the inner plastic arch.

Gary your SWB is lookin' real sweet on 18's :cool3:

Have to agree with RichardSmith and MeisterR about keeping 17's, since my car kinda suits them already, keeping 17's means a bit more sidewall to play with and tyres are considerably cheaper.

now just wondering wether to keep these Work Equip or go for some genuine BBS LM's I have been offered...hmmmmm! :whistling:

Your current wheels look really good IMO. But if you can afford the genuine bbs then go for them, gorgeous wheel. But I'm pretty sure you are a big fan anyway, didn't you have them on your z31?

I think this car is going to be one to watch :cool3:

These LM's are with a friend at the moment, the reason for mega LM temptation is that these particular ones were made as a direct upgrade for the Z32, unlike my old LM's on my Z31 were made for the Supra, which mean't I had to get the centerbores bored out and have custom spacers built for them to work on the Z31 properly

did look nice though :D I miss that car
