Hey Folks!

Check this out-I´m a bit confused about this; got this pic from ZNATIONALS, rear 99 spec lights,

Maybe is just my imagination but does anyone noticed that both upper and low are whites on the first Z? confuses me

cause on other rear 99 spec lights Z, upper is red and lower is white...like the green one.

 

attached you will see what I mean; take a look at the first Z and the second; don´t you see a difference

on the lights? first I thought maybe they also have the spec 99 lights in both white..but now I am lost or perhaps is just my imagination.

Im pretty sure the Top set are standard 99spec lights ands its just the lighting and angle of pic.

 

The version on tomomontana car are converted 89-98 stock lights. You take them apart and repalce the coloured lenses with the clear perspex strips.

MMmm now that you mentioned I am beggining to think they are the 99 spec lights, just from a different angle and light.

but you can have a conversion done and put a clear lens over a red one giving you that look from any angle.

i had mine made for me by phutumsch (a member on here) because i had never seen ones like this before so wanted to be different, i've now had the lines continued into the reverse light panel to make it look a bit more different.

to be honest he did an amazing job with both items and i would highly reccommend his work to anyone!

he did have a set like mine for sale on ebay a couple of weeks ago that went for about £130.

Problem here would be; either I pay phutumsch a weekend stay in benalmadena spain where I am actually; or I drive the Z all the way up to UK where he lives..lol

no, he'll already have some rear lights at his, he will make them for you how ever you want them. he'll then post them to you and you'll have to post yours back to him when the new ones are fitted. simple.

don't worry, he reads anything with the words lights or illuminated in the title :lol:

square strip lighting cover + dremel + 89spec rear lights.

 

Take your lights off the car, take the small screw out from the middle of them, heat the oven to 220 degree's, place one light at a time into the oven, won't leave them in too long or they will start to melt / buckle the outer lens, make sure you do not rest them against the metal in the oven, a plate will work better, once they have been in for around 1min take it out using a spreading knife, start pealing the outer casing off the inner casing, it gets bloody messy due to the black glue nissan use to bind them together.

 

keep popping them in and out of the oven, working the lens's free, make sure what ever you use is to be thrown as its a bitch to get that black glue off, and wear some gloves that 1. don't melt 2. you can throw away, keep working on them, don't rush it they will come apart eventually, once removed take the red and orange light strips and use them as a template, take your strip light cover and using the dremel cut it to shape using the original light diffuser as the template as already mentioned, once done you should have new white diffusers

 

Place these into the lights, take the light unit and heat it back up in the oven, take the outer lens plastic and refit it back into the rear of the light unit, again takes a bit but to get it flush, you need to reheat that glue up, give it solid firm pressure but try not to crack that plastic, once done you should now have a set of rear lights that have clear lens's

 

give them a good clean / buff / polish and refit it to the car. now just repeat for the other side.

 

I did a set of fake 99spec's and they turned out great. the second time i did it, i actually melted the light unit as i forgot they where in the damn oven LOL, but was lucky i had a spare set.

 

Just pay close attention to your lights when heating, as you only need to be heating the glue not melting the plastic lol and always remove that one screw off the back of them, or they will never come apart.

One thing Vods as forgot to add but you would soon realise, the stock red lense as a hole in it and this is for the reflector screw thread, so a replacement clear diffuser will need this hole also.

this is the set I'm currently doing for my car.. it will give it the look of the car at the top, with a clear looking finish at some angles...

 

I've put led strips in it to compliment the led bulbs that will go in the standard holders. (if it looks crap they'll be coming back out..lol..)

Nice work, I have a plan for a look like this, I will get to work, does not include the led strips though but they look very nice, fills the back of each diffuser evenly :cool3:

 

Tell me though Gerry, how do you intend to make the brake lights brighter than the tails :confused1:

Some led strips are brighter than others, this I know, of course you must obtain the correct brightness for both to be fully satisfied :)

the LED's in the tail light section are only used during braking so no issue with brightness.

 

I was going to do a lower wattage set (using a resistor to reduce current) for tail lights but didn't want to go to all that trouble it it looked crap.. LOL...

 

I still have the standard bulb fitments with LED''s in them as well..... still won't be on the car for a few weeks as it's very sick and going to Zedworld for a head gasket replacement (new rad, timing belt & waterpup.. plus extras).

Also when I get her back got to get welding and rust work done.... oh and new BYCAS...

 

So, by the end of the year I'll be at least £3k lighter in the pocket (if I'm, lucky)..lol...

 

Never had a head job as a Christmas present before.. :)

Well I have had a go at something similar so back at ya :cool3:

 

I have as I stated above kept the original bulbs in these units, I will have a play with some leds another day on another set :thumbup:

 

All ready for assembly, both lenses match this way.

 

 

And below the one nearest the camera is this different way, the other still as the original red lense in it with just the lower amber one replaced with a clear one :biggrin:
