Aircon is not so cool! Think it needs recharging. Anybody know what that costs?

Featured Replies

I think it's about 150 squid or so, but I was told by somebody that does re-gassing that no car should ever need recharging.

Air-con is basically the same setup as yer fridge freezer and you don't have to recharge that ever year or so.

Usually means that there is a leak in the system somewhere so get the whole system checked out. Reason being that there are alot of cowboyZ out there who just go round re-gassing...only to leave you needing another expensive recharge a few months later.

Had mine regassed at the local Nissan garage as they have a deal with the aircon people costs £69, before filling they pressure test the system with nitrogen to see if their are any leaks, which is when I found that I needed a new condenser (Bugger).

It might be worth seeing if your local nissan dealer does the same deal.

My air con is currently needing to be re-charged. I have a hole in the compressor apparently. Anyone know how much this is going to cost me?

Thanks.

Your fridge doesnt do 155mph!

As I understand it - and I could be wrong! car aircon loses 10 - 20% of the refridgerant gas every year. It leaks out of hoses and pipe joints and in a proper aircon system it is 10 - 20 times more powerful than any domestic fridge. So any 8 -10 year old Z is probably well down on gas. If it dont nip your nose with that dry fridge air smell when you put it to auto set to chill then it's outa gas!.

Also you have to make a routine to use it on auto at least once or twice a month to keep compressor seals lubricated.

Just got a quote from a guy in Rochdale to do a full test and recharge - £68 fully inclusive! smile.gif Well chuffed. They do a low pressure vacuum test, then a high pressure vacuum test (or something like that wink.gif ) then lubricate the compressor and recharge the system if everythings ok.

Will let you all know how I get on - hopefully both tests will show ok!
