I know this sounds daft but i tried jacking my zed up today (trolley jack) and the lip which it goes on started to bend where is the best place to used a trolley jack when working on wheels and exhaust without causing any damage to the car.

I prefer trolley jacks then standard factory ones.

Pics would help me as im not fully clued up with the underside of the vehicle

If jacking the back end up I always use the diff to jack it up, if lowered drive onto some planks of wood first,

If jacking the front I use either the chassis rails with a plank of wood between the jack and chassis rail never bent one yet or you can also use the front subframe where the engine mounts bolt too

Use any of these and you can't go wrong

The std jack is an excellent bit of kit if used in the correct place on cars that are structurally sound. On lowered cars they are often essential to get in first .

Do not however use a trolley jack in the same places.

At the back you can use the front mounts of the rear subframe going in from the side. Or from the rear use the curved lower part of the subframe.

At the front you need to get right in to the main underfloor chassis rails from the side or from the front get under the ENGINE crossmember. NOT trhe rad support crossmember.

IMO IMO

Agreed!! The OEM jack, when used at the front, should only be placed under the front door, NOT the wings..... It has the "groove" in it to slip either side of the seam than runs along the sills. There is a section of the chassis just behind this seam, near where the front door meets the frong wing. BUT ensure that the lifting beam of the jack will not foul the seam and bend it out of shape.

This is why I always insist on watching when the car is in the tyre fitters or any other garage not familiar with the ZX; as I've had the sill seams straightened out twice now so I've learned from those mistakes. I never worry when it's at Jeff's though....:whistling:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:
