Evening chaps,

 

Some of you may have seen a thread on here posted by the previous owner - after the engine turns off, a small leak was happening towards the rear of the engine.

 

Now, the leak is getting worse. Driving home from Squires this evening (pics to follow seperately) the car seemed to be getting pretty hot and a hissing noise was coming from the passenger side of the engine. After getting home, there was more steam than normal as well.

 

I'm taking it to Zedworld next Tuesday but I'm a bit worried that the car isnt going to make it!

 

Has anyone got any ideas?

Well I'm not in any particular rush any more I guess, at least I still have my daily and I cant make Zedworld on Tuesday now anyway. I'll see what the garage say today...

Mine went when i was on my holls. I drove to a garage bought some pipe and some plyers and had it fixed in about 10 min :)

I had a 1 inch breather pipe go on me, it had a horrible leak but it was two pin holes in this tiny little pipe. Had to remove the turbo intake on the n/s and the battery to get at it though. Perhaps it's a similar problem?

Just heard from the garage - they have confirmed that the problem is said Turbo Coolant Feed Pipe as advised on here...

 

Problem is, as they arent Zed specialists theyll charge me £200 to have it fixed as they say its a massive pain in the arse to get to and will take a good few hours labour...

 

I dont really want to have to fork out that much money when Zedworld can do it for £90, I just cant get to Zedworld in it! Anyone local(ish) to me who may be any good?

what one is it? you really could do it yourself. seriously. :) once youve done it you be asking why you were evening worried about it.

Agree with the above, even if you do a quick fix to keep you happy for an hour or so down the road.

It really isn't the most important of jobs unless it's actually constantly pissing out like a stream!

 

Hope the garage don't do you a big bill for investigating mate.

Problem is, I've got no mechanical experience or training or anything like that!

 

It's on the passenger side, sort of underneath the battery, turbo water feed pipe...

 

Smithy - it is pretty bad, car starts to overheat after being driven for about 15 minutes and does like quite a bit and hisses steam all over the place...

While my car has been off in the garage I had noticed some dark patches on the ground where my Zed had been parked...

 

The patches are dark and have not dried up in the nice weather - and although they don't smell of oil or petrol, I'm slightly concerned that this could be something more serious rather than just water.

 

Am I overthinking things too much?!?! lol.

 

The local garage quoted me £200 to fix the pipe, waiting for a response from nearest major Nissan garage as well...

Most common thing with zeds, the t junctions off the water pipes out the back of the motor rust around where the hoses plug on and sometimes just inside the hose out of sight...

 

they run off to the throttle bodies, dont need them... remove pipes, 2 10mm bolts on each. hacksaw the old t junctions off go get them brazed up..... cut out a couple of bits of gaskets paper, slap it back in, best to replace the rubber heater hoses. can also cause other water system items to fail prematurely, so check the ocndition of your radiator cap and it always pays to throw a new thermostat in if you never know where it was last done. dont pour cold water into it if it overheats, shut it off and wait at least an hour or youll crack the heads.ill usually put the obttles of water in the engine bay somewhere they wont melt to heat the water a bit before putting it in.... anything is better than cold!

 

You'll get there in the end its a simple fix takes about 2-3 hours on ya first time if the intake mani is on, if you got big fingers dont even bother trying unless you can rope in somebody mechanically competent with skeleton hands.
