Hi all, I have been looking and admiring the zx for a long time and now in a position where I am actually looking to do something about it

I was just after a couple of bits of info. I am not a fan of auto's generally but would love to know some opinions on how good the auto boxes are in these or whether it would be worth sticking with the manuals. Being a car thats not easily available for test drives, any comparisons would be nice.

2ndly, anyone on here a carp fisherman? If so can you get rods in the car? :punk:

Thanks

Daz

Fit almost anything in the LWB estate version - so no worries on that score

rods wise fine mate, i get my barbel and match rods in there fine. however i struggle more with the access these cars dont do gravel tracks well. i had an auto but i converted to manual the auto boxes are a little delicate and really do take some of the driving pleasure away. they do however make the car a very comfortable cruiser. where abouts are you located?

Wow, cheers for the quick responses guys.

It looked from pics like rods should fit so pleased about that, I did think about the ground clearance but most of the lakes I fish have pretty decent access so should be okay there.

Im based down near guildford. Anybody round this area at all?

Welcome to the club matey :)

If your not keen on auto's then I would avoid them and go for the manual. It's not fair to say that the autobox is a weak point but as they are getting on for twenty years old, they can give up the ghost. The manual box does seem to be much stronger but can still suffer from synchro problems.

As for carping; Yes you'll get your rods in but you haven't got a hope in hell of getting all the other stuff in like bivvy, barrow, bait bags etc. Saying that if you use the fox box you could probably get that in

I bought an estate for my carp sessions and that does the job.

You can get a lot in them.. but dont park the rear wheels on the grass in case it rains..lol..

Unless there are other people round to push you out.. lol...

Hello and welcome to the forum mate!!

My advice about buying a 300zx is to ignore the auto vs manual (unless you buy an n/a then it has to be manual) and just buy the best example available to you at the time....

......the auto boxes are not bad - but as said, on a 20 year old performance car some will have been cooked to almost death by now. There always seems to be more autos available for sale than manuals (probably as most 300zxs were sold from new as autos); but there are decent manual cars out there for sale from time to time!!

Plus is you buy an auto and the 'box dies then you can always do a manual conversion!

Good luck in your hunt,

Richard:thumbup1:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Well went to see my first one yesterday, walked away after 5 mins!

Not a good example and didnt think it would be fair to test drive and base my experiences on that!

Richard - Any rough costs on a manual conversion? and would there be any downsides to a decent conversion rather than a manual box originally?

Ian - Don't suppose you would be interested in showing off your car a bit at some point do ya? :thumbup1:

And until i can afford the 2nd car ill do 2 trips if i have to for the fishing! Already accepted the drum kit isn't gunna fit, but thats what a vocalist and his car is for right?

Hi Daz, I get called washing powder too ,lol and especially Daz automatic :D

Anyway`s, I have both, auto and manual and love them both, the manual is definatley more of a thrill when booting it and fast driving so will suit the twin turbo most, my n/a is auto and love that too, but just for cruising and tottering about :) I have had 3 auto boxes break on me in 7 years in my TT , they seem to break as soon as the power is upped a little and as the others say they are getting on a bit now, so my advise just as Richard mentioned , is buy the best you can afford and if the box doenst suit your needs then swap it over, rough cost is about £1500, but others including myself have done it for a lot cheaper if you can do it yourself ;)

My drums won't fit in mine... get yourself a Renault Laguna as a daily driver like me, and they fit in there no problems ;)

On another note, welcome to the forums!

?

My turbo zed is not running well at the moment, so wouldnt be much of a test drive, but your welcome to have a look and a chat

The vert (na) is a manual conversion if your interested in knowing more about that and is working fine at the moment
